Connection issues

I'm running a pc with XP home. I just upgraded to the latest limewire and i can't get it to connect. It worked fine with the older version, but i get nothing with this one. Every time i try to connect it just disconnects again. I tried to telnet the standard port number and got the "gnutella ok," I tried different port numbers that i found in other posts, all to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

Are you using the latest official release or the latest beta?

Uh, i think it's the official release, not sure but maybe 2.5.5. At least is't 2.5. I just downloaded it a couple of days ago from limewire .com.

Try the latest beta, 2.6.1 , it should get you connected even if you can't connect to LimeWire's pong servers.

Funny you mention that, i just uninstalled 2.5.5 and downloaded the 2.6.1 beta version and i have the same problem. Any ideas?

Not recently, but before i upgraded, i was using 2.4.4 and lime worked like a charm on the same connection. I guess they could have changed the firewall. How would i go about checking?

Simply uninstall (or disable) your firewall and try LimeWire again.

Something tells me that i do not have the authority to disable the firewall. I'm just an end user at an large university. If this is something i can do, i need a more descriptive answer, i'm not sure knowledgable about computers. Thanks

Most universities have started blocking all gnutella traffic. You will not be able to run LimeWire.
