i know about school's firewalls but...
 

My school has a firewall but i can still download. The problem is that the connection is unbarebly slow (0 kb - 1 KB /sec) My roomate not more then 20 feet away from me in getting amazing connections (not sure exactly but he's downloading songs in 2 seconds flat). As far as I know our configurations for everything are the same. Is this just a problem of luck? or can I do something about it?

Depending on your OS there are varoius ways to do this, but first find out what your IP and subnet maks are and how you recieved the IP.

Find out you rroom mates.

Determine if they are on the same Subnet. and what gateway IP they both are using.

( If any thing I say is greek , don't worry, I know you have the internet and you obvoiusly have time to look stuff up if you are using a P2P program)

This may give you some insight into why one system is one system is cranking and the other is wankin.

Of course ther are many other reasons.

You might just have a p[eice of crap computer. Or you may need to open up windows sixze and increase TTL in the registry.

You could have a Virus!>!>..! Sh0K! or maybe you just need to reboot and try the searches again.

Who knows? All I know is thats its time to apply more tape to my feet and check my campbells soup can alarm.
