main class?

whenever I try to open the application program it says " its unable to locate the application's 'main class.'" What does this mean and what should I do?

jkoer November 17th, 2002 11:03 AM

I had the same problem. I went to a website www.ircee.com/p2p/limewire.htm and downloaded version 2.4.4. Then I uninstalled the new one that messed everything up, and installed 2.4.4. It works like a charm. If at first you search for a song and the limewire icon just keeps spinning hit stop and go to file and click disconnect, then go to file again and click connect, then check your connections and you should see your connections. Everything should be OK for you I hope.

afisk November 18th, 2002 10:36 AM

We've fixed this in version 2.7.8. Sorry for the confusion.

dib1066 November 18th, 2002 11:14 AM

Nope

I just downloaded the 2.7.8 from the Pro page and am getting the same error. Again and again and again.

The same Java error as before....

Julie Z November 18th, 2002 11:16 AM

Also, the old Non Fatal Translator Settings error mysteriously came back.

afisk November 18th, 2002 01:15 PM

This should finally be fixed in 2.7.9. Apologies again for the confusion - 2.7.8 also was corrupted.

Thanks for everyone's help on this.

spearson November 18th, 2002 03:45 PM

Adam, does version 2.7.9 fix the Fatal Error?

Unregistered November 18th, 2002 03:52 PM

When to you expect the porblem to be fixed?

afisk November 18th, 2002 03:57 PM

2.7.9 does fix the problem. Our apologies agaiin for the frustrations (I know it's a big download).

spearson November 18th, 2002 04:42 PM

Adam, where do we get version 2.7.9? Do we download it from the download page on the LimeWire website? How big is it? If I already have Java would I download Macintosh No VM? What version would you recommend I download? Thanks for your advice.

afisk November 18th, 2002 04:48 PM

You can get the free version without a VM from the following link:

http://www3.limewire.com/download/LimeWireMacNoVM.bin

If you have pro, you should be able to simply insert "NoVM" at the end of the link URL (but before .bin) to access it. That version is under 6 MB.

spearson November 18th, 2002 05:21 PM

Adam, thanks for your advice. I am downloading it as I type. I will let you know if it works or doesn't work for me.

dib1066 November 18th, 2002 06:43 PM

Yet again...

I am still getting the same error. I have no LimeWire on my system because at some point I was told to delete everything... I'm still getting the Java error message, I'm still getting a non-fatal error when I install. AND I still have no LimeWire, despite supporting you people and having PRO.

At some point do you think this might work?

I'm running a mac OS 9.2.2

spearson November 18th, 2002 06:57 PM

Adam, I tried it and I got the same java error:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Main
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Compiled Code)
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)
at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMStaticMethodDispatcher.ru n(JMAWTContextImpl.java)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java)

That is what I get when I clicked details.

dib1066 November 18th, 2002 07:07 PM

me too

At this point, after numerous tries, I could probably quote the error message by rote.

And it just keeps popping up.... no matter how many times I install... see the error message. Uninstall everything. Reboot. Redownload an ever growing batch of LimeWire versions. Reinstall. See the log post a non-fatal error message. Have it tell me that LimeWire will run sucessfully. click on that little LimeWire button. And watch as once again.... that Java Error message pops up. 2.7.7 doesn't work. 2.7.8 didn't work and now 2.7.9 simply repeats the error.

I've purchased PRO, to support what is increasingly an exercise in futility for me.

or a nice way to practice rebooting my system

afisk November 19th, 2002 11:26 AM

The free version was not updated until today, unfortunately. Apologies again for the annoyance.

I've made a change to our build process that will make this error not happen ever again in the future. Thank you all again for you patience.

dib1066 November 19th, 2002 01:47 PM

so what now?

So what now? Do I download from the Pro page? The last time I did that, I got an internal bug note that I had to forward to you guys and I haven't heard back from you yet...

spearson November 19th, 2002 04:59 PM

Adam, I get this error when I startup LimeWire. I get it 3 times. First when LimeWire starts up. 2nd when I close the options window. 3rd when I quit the program. I also get the setup wizard every time I try to open the program. Please look in to this. Thanks

Julie Z November 19th, 2002 08:32 PM

Interesting, I just got this internal bug notice today. (I've been sticking with 2.7.3 all this time because of reading all these java posts.) I tried 2.7.8 yesterday and got the java main class error. I uninstalled 2.7.8 and reinstalled my 2.7.3 no VM yesterday. Ran it (it was running better than ever, even!) and then it froze at some point. So today, when I rebooted and restarted LimeWire, I get this error message. So, I'm kinda wondering too, if 2.7.8 messed something up in my system. I am using Mac OS 9.1 Hmmmm.....

And now, I apologize to all those people that I told that Adam had said it was fixed. Ooops.

Here's the message:

System problem?

So now LimeWire has done something to MY operating system? And I still haven't heard back from Pro Support....

Am not feeling very friendly toward LimeWire at this point

Not necessarily. It may be something in 2.7.3 that was a problem. I was clearing out some old emails and I found another bug notice I had sent from when I first installed it a few weeks ago. It was the same exact message. So, I think it just came up because I had reinstalled it the other day. It still works.

I think something is obviously being overlooked in the code.

I'm sorry you haven't heard back. I'd be alot more upset, too, if I were a paying customer. Since I'm not, it's not that big of a deal. It'll get worked out eventually. I hope!

dib1066 November 20th, 2002 08:42 AM

S.O.S

Acutally I'm getting the exact same error problems as LimeDude. Every single problem. From getting the setup Wizard on each startup, to the exact same error code and problems. I'd like to hear back. It would be nice. Beside from posting on the forums, I've sent emails to bugs, support and service.

And aside from two very neat automatic message responses, have heard nothing from Lime wire regarding my continuing problems since the upgrade.

afisk November 20th, 2002 02:59 PM

We're looking at this problem now as well. For some reason, this was fixed on OS X, but not on OS 9. We should have it solved shortly.

dib1066 November 20th, 2002 03:04 PM

OS 9... the forgotten MAC OS

Thanks for checking in on the problem... Please let me know the resolution

spearson November 20th, 2002 03:52 PM

Thanks Adam for checking on this problem.

Julie Z November 20th, 2002 03:59 PM
