Solved(??) my connection problem

Telnet says "Gnutella OK", but can't connect to any hosts. I just have a constantly changing list of IP addresses attempting to connect. This condition began very unexpectedly, but also about the same time I upgraded to ver 2.7.3. Tried other clients (Shareaza, QmaxTrax, etc.) all with the same issue. Combed over this forum, tried the Gnutella connection client, but still no luck. Even though telnet says Gnutella Ok, I decided to ask my ISP if they had anything to do with it. BINGO! "Oh, well, we began 'limiting' P2P gnutella traffic." Which I took to mean that unless I'm on DSL or cable or better (which I'm not) I won't really connect at all.

For all of you experiencing similar connection issues, check with your ISP.

The other ISP in town has this policy

This is the policy of the other ISP in the town I live in. I'd be interested to hear what you all think.

I have the same connection problem where it won't maintain a connection. I live in a university residence too with a constant fast connection.

The thing that confuses me is that friends in other rooms who run limewire on linux have absolutely no connection problems. Another friend with an iBook has no connection problems, I have seen it with my own eyes...

Me on my imac, i can't connect! Is this really an issue with ISP?

No it doesn't

Not from what you describe, but I'm not a Mac person.
Good luck,

Concerning your iMac, there is no problem other than getting the correct settings in the connection window.

For one thing, you must set the number of connections to "3" It doesn't come that way when you install it. So set it conrrectly. Otherwise you'll continue to experience problems.

Then there are a number of DNS numbers/server names that you can add which will make the connection better/more stable. I'm trying to find those numbers/server names right now, which is why I'm going through the forum posts.
When I find those numbers I will post them with
under CONNECTIONS/DNS/SERVER NAMES.

Look for them.

Tried the telnet trick - got something other than "Gnutella OK". Contacted my ISP and asked what was going on. They said they weren't blocking traffic. Am I just not holding my mouth right when I type the number or what?

Figured that was the reason I wasn't making it past the "loading options window" when trying to run it (as was another user in a thread below). Going to confirm I've got the updated Java and try again.

Any other ideas?
