Port

I've downloaded this program several times even trying to download the international version. However every time that I've downloaded it it says that it can't find a port. I tried to use the port number that my suitemate uses but it said it was an unavailable port for me. How do I find another port to use that might be valid for me? If you could help I would greatly appreciate it.

You will have to ask the person that configured the firewall/network options on your system.

connection issue now

Okay now I've found a port just through random numbers that I've used. I can use this port but I still can't connect. When I push connect it does it for a second and then disconnects. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks!

Are you using the latest LimeWire version (2.7.13)?

Yes I am using the new version 2.7.13. I am using the international version also because I had read on these boards that that could have been the problem1

My first guess would be that there is a firewall that does not allow any connection to the gnutella network. - Many schools and universities for example block gnutella.

That's what I thought at first too. However a huge group of my friends in my dorm can use this program and have no problem downloading stuff. How can I find out if it's blocked? I tried clicking on the option to force the address under firewall settings but it's still not working.

Are you sure they are using LimeWire? Some other gnutella apps have proxy support to circumvent some blocking mechanisms LimeWire doesn't have such a thing.

Yes they are using Limewire. I just am so confused as to why it works on everyones computer but mine. For some reason it just won't connect. Is there a possibility that my windows is too outdated it's 95 or that I'm on the school network and not an actual modem?

I really can't tell. I never tried to use LimeWire on Wi*** - but it should work if you have Sun's latest JavaVM installed. -

The school network is very likely to block gnutella, since most schools don't like their bandwidth used for that kind of purpose.
