high Dropped I/O percentages?
 

Lately, I've noticed that all the Ultrapeers I connect to show really high percentages on the Dropped I/O, e.g. 80%/0%.

Is this a problem on my end or on theirs?

As far as I can tell, my connection works fine. People are able to upload from me just fine, same as always. I've got a 768k SDSL line (expensive) and a Linksys router. I recently upgraded the router's firmware and I'm wondering if that messed-up something.

Or, is this a sign of trouble on the Gnutella network, that the Ultrapeers don't have enough bandwidth? Is there a DoS attack taking place?

I switched back to 2.7.13 Pro
 

I re-installed 2.7.13 Pro and I no longer see lots of Dropped I/O (Input probs, actually). Instead, I'm apparently seeing a very short-term representation of the I/O because it rapidly jumps between 0% 33% 50% 66% and 100%. So, maybe 2.8.5 was simply giving an accurate long-term statistic, one which I hadn't expected because the short-term stat often shows 0%.

re uploads, I'd noticed that no one was getting past 0% 1% or 2%, even though the upload speeds were good. Could it be that 2.8.5 is miscalculating the percent-uploaded only as a short-term stat, based on the chunk-size vs the entire file-size? That certainly seems consistent. Now that I'm back on 2.7.13 Pro, I'm seeing uploads at a "normal" range of completed percentages again. Since they're probably the same people who were uploading from me before I cut them off, it would certainly indicate that 2.8.5 was simply misreporting them.

Java not fast enough?
 

Well, I switched back to 2.8.5 Pro because 2.7.13 Pro didn't seem any better -- it was just showing short-term stats rather than (the more important) long-term stats.

One thing I've noticed:
Morpheus Ultrapeers drop a lot fewer packets than the various version of Limewire!

Since the only thing the various versions of LW have in common is Java (and since Morpheus is a native Win32 app), does this indicate that Java is not fast enough? I know that Java 1.4 is supposed to be a lot faster at network I/O...

Can LW's Connection-screen report which Java version is in-use by Ultrapeers?
