Ultrapeer vs Leaf connection: A Java Issue?

I'm using Limewire 2.8.6 Pro on a Windows XP machine. It seems that Limewire will no longer connect in Ultrapeer mode even though my connection throughput hasn't changed and I've altered no options in Limewire. The only other change to my system is that I've updated Sun Java to the most current version: 1.4.1_02. Is this the cause of Limewire acting only as leaf, not as ultrapeer?

Thanks!

I have a similar setup (as do we all ! ) and it's "random" whether or not I "go" ultrapeer or not. In my case, I think it may depend on whether or not I already have a lot of upload requests queued-up. It also may depend on how many Ultrapeers are already running, i.e., you may "go" Leaf if there are enough Ultrapeers to handle the current load.

ultrapeer

tell you the truth, I think it might be better to be connected as a leaf. I seem to download faster with a leaf connection. I never did get a sasifactory explanation as to why a firewalled, routed computer like mine is connecting as an ultrapeer but oh well. I don't mind enough to disable untrapeer capabilities, I think I should do my part on the network.

Hello!

If you have lots of files that you are sharing then you could try to limit the upload bandwidth used and also the amount of available upload slots(number of persons that are able to download from you at the same time). That way people might be getting slower download speeds from you but the traffic load on you would also decrease enabling you to handle the traffic for distributing Gnutella messages/packets as an UltraPeer.

If you preferr to share lots of files and enabeling more persons to download from you at maximum speed then you should remain as a Leaf Node.
