rules for Ultrapeer mode?

What determines whether or not your Limewire will run in Ultrapeer mode or not? I'm not referring to the "Disable Ultrapeer" option! I assume there's a calculation done somewhere/sometime by either the local instance or the community of existing Ultrapeers...

Basically, I have an *unused* DSL line at my office and I've been running LW 2.97-Pro on it for a week without it ever switching from Leaf to Ultrapeer mode. I'm not trying to share files (since that might cause legal problems for my office) but just to offer the bandwidth for searches.

My server is a P2-400 with 192 MB of RAM, running WinNT and Java 1.4.1_02, on a 1.5M/128k ADSL connection. I've already tried upgrading the memory from 128MB.

According to the user guide, an ultrapeer needs to be non-firewalled (or I believe have the port opened through the firewall). If you are connecting through work they may have a firewall configured disqualifying you as an ultrapeer.

I wouldn't sweat it.

Hello!

You cannot become an UltraPeer since you are using Windows NT. Only Windows 2000 (not Millenium)and XP and Mac OSX operative systems are allowed as UltraPeers. And all speeds above modem speed is allowed.

no NT, really? Whyever not? If that's the case, then oh well, so much for donating the services.

And, if this is true, it'd be nice if the Options/Speed window had Disable Ultrapeer forcibly checkmarked (and then popped-up a message telling why if you tried to click on it).

P.S. This is on an unused DSL line with it's own firewall already configured to forward port 6346.
