I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH THIS WILL HELP YOU BUT GO AND TRY THE NEW WEBSHOTS FOR MAC PROGRAM IT MAY RESET SOME OF YOUR PROGRAM SETTINGS TO WERE THEY WORK BETTER FOR YOU

I don't know about the webshots, but my connection problems were eased by sharing >100 non-spam files, forcing the IP, setting the OSX firewall to allow gnutella, using narrow searches and BLOCKING IP's that spread spam. For now I've had to check "disable Ultrapeer" in the prefs. On my G3, LW cannot run reliably as an Ultrapeer.

I gather the newer clients are quicker to drop freeloaders or clients whose searches are too broad. As you know, the network has been hurt by clients who flood the network with queries or spam responses.

So, looks to me like cleaning out the shared folder and searching more responsibly has helped keep me connected.

Happy Easter

Hi, Exaeon...

You have not stated which client you are referring to in your above post... I am guessing you are talking about LimeWire, but it is best if you confirm...
Then, either I or one of the other mods can move this thread to the correct Forum... OK ?

Have fun...

Sorry--from what info you've given I can't tell why they are disconnecting after a few seconds. Version? Direct connection? Firewall open? NAT mapped? How many try at once? (if more than 6, try disabling ultrapeer). How many files are being hashed?
Lots of possibilities. I don't know how the code determines when to keep or reject connections, or what it is about your setup that triggers the rejection. Maybe if you gave some specifics someone else can help.

Okay...here

First off its the new version. I have only about 30 files. I have it set for only 5 searches. I have ultrapeer off. I have a firewall, but it hasnt stopped it before. Forced IP is set. Its just not connecting to anything, and I haven't even tried to search but once. The connection isnt even stable enough to search in the first place. Is that enough to help

stief April 23rd, 2003 02:27 PM

That's a start. Here's how I set my firewall to allow gnutella (OSX->System Preferences->Internet and Network->Sharing->Firewall->New->Port Name->Gnutella/Limewire (6346). I've also read that some Ultrapeers reject you if you don't share >100 files.

The easiest way to check if it's your current setup is to create a new admin user, redownload a fresh copy of LW, and install again. If that setup won't connect, the problem is beyond your computer. New users get a break in the code somehow.

The other immediate possibilities are that your ISP has started blocking gnutella (doubtful if you were able to connect before), too many incomplete files are trying to connect at startup (clean out the incomplete folder and the downloads.dat file), or that somehow your IP ended up in the blocked IP list of your usual Ultrapeers (make sure you only share valid files).

Does that help you get started on troubleshooting? I don't know what other suggestions I can offer since LW 2.9.8 hasn't had trouble connecting for me. I could send you about a dozen crash logs related to other LW problems, though!

Product Type

I can't find the firewall tab (or anything in general about it) in my sharing section of system prefs.

To the other methods, I've dumped about 100 song back into shared folder (the only reason there were so few was that I had iTunes that copies the files so I no longer needed them on LW). Incompletele cleaned out incomplete folders....but still not one stable connection.

Another thing, about 2 weeks it was working...in fact working wonderfully...with like 6 connections running at a time. I don't usually put up more than 4 searches at a time also...I hope that helps in narrowing it down. I have to try to install it again..but I tried that last week and still had no luck.

No firewall tab? Ooops--I guess I forgot to ask you the most basic question: What is your OS? (Apple Menu->About this Computer). All my answers assumed you were running OSX (10.2.5) on the G3.

[edit--why don't you just delete this thread and post your question in the Limewire Mac section, as Ursula originally suggested--look around and see which forum best fits your situation. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/forumd...p?s=&forumid=7

You can delete this thread by clicking on the edit button of your original post to see the delete option

Exaeon April 24th, 2003 03:23 PM

I think its alive

I think I managed to get a connection...several...thanx to you mentioning the > 100 rule....Ive got a good connection and others to come. THANX AGAIN

stief April 24th, 2003 03:35 PM

Glad it worked.

btw--Not a pest--just trying to help figure out what's wrong. There are a lot of platforms, versions and expereince levels out there, so it's easy to guess wrong like the guess about the delete button being available in the original first post of the thread.

For next time, sometimes the easy solution is to use the uninstall Limewire app, then use the Find command to search for anything "limew." This will catch the Limewire folder and also the LimeWire.plist in your library. These files are not removed by the uninstaller. Trash 'em, and download a fresh copy and reinstall. At least you'll be starting fresh.

Cheers. Interesting about the >100 files!
