Program launch and connect

I'm using Windows ME and I've made sure I've got all the updates from MSN for ME and Internet Explorer. I've installed the latest version of Limewire and the shortcut appears on the desktop. However, when I doubleclick the shortcut nothing happens. The program will not launch. I'm connected to the internet via Earthlink DSL.

I've changed my Internet Explorer security levels and have turned off my Norton Antivirus Autoprotect feature, too. Still nothing.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Security settings wouldn't stop your program from launching.

It sounds like your shortcut may be corrupt. If you are using Windows try launching from the start menu. If that works delete your dsktop shortcut and recreate it.

corrupt shortcut

I've tried even launching the actual .exe file. No luck. The program does load into memory (I can see it in the list when I CTRL-ALT-DEL) but it will not launch Internet Explorer and I get absolutely nothing.

Mike,

Try this -

Open control panel
double click the Java icon to open it
click on the "browser" tab
Uncheck Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape

Reboot and try your connection.

Let me know if that does it.

Good Luck,

Norm

Well that wasn't exactly the problem but you pointed me in the right direction! My java program wasn't working. When I tried to open it up nothing happened. When I tried to delete it the files could not be found. I went and dl'd an updated version (1.4.1.02) and installed it. Limewire now works great.

Thanks for the help.

Mike,

I am glad you got it going. I had suspected a Java issue but I thought it wasn't working properly - not missing.
