Exclamation Connection problems end here...

...hopefully...

I like many others can't connect.
I have the latest version of LW, OS X and Java, but when I start LW it won't connect.
The firewall has port 6346 open (I even tried with it turned off), i have tried to restart both LW and my computer several times.
My internet provider has the port open too.

Nothing works!!! Is this a bug in the latest version of LW for Mac OS X???

Any solutions, similar problems or anything that might help?
Has anyone gotten this to work?

Can't see why it shouldn't work for you--everything looks right with your set-up. The current OSX versions are working very well for me, so I can't say it's a bug. Which version did you download, and any chance you use a router as well?

You can monitor the atttempted connections in the connections pane--perhaps that will give you more clues.

What do you think of appealing for a tool that will analyze gnutella connection quality?

Sure, I use a router. But I have tried without it, and there's no difference.

I downloaded version 3.5.7, but it says 3.5.8 in the "About" window.

I even tried to uninstall, and remove everything LW creates when installed, all prefs and Library items etc. I then reinstalled, didn't change a thing!

Do you know of any such tool you are talking about?

Here's one I know of http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=21811

Does checking the "Force IP" option in Preferences->Advanced->Firewall help?

According to the Apple Script program you mentioned port 6346/tcp is closed (6346/udp is open).
My provider claimed when I asked them a while ago that the port was open. I shall ask them again...

Sigh

Aha! My router has checkboxes for TCP and UDP--both need to be checked and enabled. Which router do you use?

Might be a good idea to doublecheck the OSX firewall settings to make sure the System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall->New->Gnutella/LimeWire (6346) is active. Also confirm, please, that 6346 is the port used in the LimeWire->Preferences->Advanced->Port and Firewall sections

What a pain, eh! 3 differentsets of places to check (and risk screwing them up!)

I have tried and checked everything, and it's correct.

But i still can't connect.

According to my provider port 6346 is open in their firewall, but they also say it's their firewall stopping me from connecting. The say it will work if I don't go through their firewall and get a static IP (have to pay them more per month).

Do you really need a static IP? A month ago LW just went dead. It has always worked before, and started working again if I upgraded.

But not this time...

When writing the post above, LW accually connected!!!

It seems it's very time-based, because it wont connect most of the day's hours.

Hmm...

You don't have to have a static IP. You can set to a different port than the default of 6346, but that's a hassle.

Sounds like your ISP is attempting to control filesharing, so keep at them. Ask them how they can set it up to allow you a clean connection to the Gnutella network. Perhaps they can route you to a different 'hub' or give you a different cablemodem.

Search for posts containing the word "Sandvine" for more discussion about ISP's using filesharing controls
