Can't Connect!!!!

I have a wireless modem, I know that I am online (I am on whenever my computer is on), but I just downloaded LimeWire, and it won't connect! Every time I try to get it to connect, it does so for barely 1 second, before disconnecting again. Why won't it connect, and how can I fix this???

LimeWire will take a little while to connect at first. Connection could also depend on the time that you try to connect. Connections are usually better around 7 and 11 PM. Connections are usually better with the pro version of LW. You will figure out how it works after a little while.

I explored this board and followed the directions on that message last night, but it did not help...I even tried it twice, to make sure that I had had all of LimeWire completely shut down...but it doesn't work. I left my computer online all night, with LimeWire open, but it still won't connect. How long should I wait before giving up and getting rid of it?

. . . then post your details in the appropriate thread--You've waited long enough! I hear you--took me months to discover that my ISP was interfering with connections. Thanks to others here, we got it worked out, but it wasn't easy

I read of too many people being blocked from connecting to the gnutella network, and looks like the LW team is trying to find out why. They'll appreciate your help.

The kind of details they need are your OS/machine, (what equipment and software you use to connect to the internet), and who controls your access (network admin at school or work, regular ISP . . . )

Sure hope you get connected!

Computer Info etc.

My computer is a 2002 Dell Latitude Laptop. I have Windows XP. My internet connection is a wireless connection through Spring DSL. I live in a house that has three apartments in it-one on each of the three floors of the house. I live on the ground floor, and the router for the wireless connection that I am using is on the middle floor. It works very well normally (except for making AIM screwy sometimes), so I'm not sure how it would cause any problems with LimeWire. If anyone can help me, please do so!!!

That's useful information!

If you have access to the modem, try locating it so you get a stronger, steadier signal. I don't know XP (OSX here), but if you, a friend, or even the help desk at Spring can do a ping test, those results can indicate the steadiness of your connection. Wireless is great--when there's no interference!

LW handles many more communications per second than AIM to keep connections alive, and others prefer to connect to reliable hosts. So, if your ISP (Spring) tells you they don't interfere with gnutella traffic, the wireless will be the part of the connection to examine.

We've implemented some potential solutions to this problem for a beta release that should go out next week. The new version is more intelligent about detecting when your connection goes out and automatically trying to maintain a connection to the network.

Thanks very much for you patience.
