I am using xp have have tried the above suggestions but my connection still only goes no for a couple of seconds - has anyone anymore idea?????

Which above suggestion?

Did Limewire worked before? If not check your build in firewall:

Disable it and try it again, and please wait a few minutes before you come back and tell us it don´t work... a couple of seconds its nothing.
