Unhappy Connection in and out

I can get a connection but it is constantly in and out causing my downloads to take hours and even days to complete. I have no firewall and I am using Windows XP Professional. I have the LimeWire Pro 3.6.15. I am also on a PC, no networking. Is that enough information? Can someone please help? I love Limewire, but if it is not going to work properly I will have to cut my loses and go somewhere else. I do not want to do that at all. Thank You.
