How to debug connection problems?

Hi,

Is there an easy way to debug connection problems?

For example, if we can do a
'telnet limewire_server some_port'

then we can determine if it's a TCP/IP, Java, firewall, or some other problem.

I think my university has started blocking P2P stuff... but is there a way to really find out? Like a simple debug 'test' program anybody at Limewire has?

thanks for any help,
Macgyver.

I think a simple packet sniffer should do the trick.

If the TCP connections cannot even be established although you send a lot of TCP-SYN packets or if they are always interrupted during handshaking, you can be quite sure, your university doesn't allow you to connect to Gnutella.
