why only incoming connections?

In my connections window I usually get only one outgoing connection, all the other incoming. The total number of host I get is usually between 1 and 2k.

Is that normal?

Yes, it's perfectly normal. Unless you have a firewall, you should expect more incoming than outgoing connections. In the case of a firewall, you'll only see outgoings, because the firewall will swallow any incoming ones.
