Cannot connect

I just installed Limewire on this machine, and I always have a disconnected indication at the top of the monitor even after clicking on file, then connect. I am connected to the internet. Should I find another download utility?

And what machine is "this"?

Guys, guys, wait.
You HAVE to give us something if you want people to try and help you.
For instance tell us AT LEAST what machine are you using Limewire on and what version of the app you have.
Simply stating that it won't work doesn't help anyone.

Just in case they miss your words of wisdom, murasame.

Thanks for stating one of the most important things that people here can do to help others help them.

I am very unhappy with this not conencting ordeal. I have MAC OSX Panther running Limewire Pro 3.8.6. I sometimes have to wait over 15-20 mintues just to connect.

I am lucky if I do get conencted and when I do I usually cant download a thing due to poor connections then every download ends up telling me to find more sources!!

Firewalls, connection? How many files are you sharing?(some people have set freeloader blocks depending on the number of files they got)
It seems that you do get connected, unlike other people, but have your downloads get the "Need More Sources" status, in which case you have to click that useful "Find More Sources" button.
Downloads are not guarenteed to get downloaded immediately. It depends on your connection as well as the connection of the uploading peer.
Plus, if you choose a file that has many results and a large number under the # column, then the more chances you have to have the download completed sooner (although if it is a VERY popular file, since many people might be trying to get it, then you might get queued).
It's all about patience; if you wait a bit then you WILL get your file, but you can't be expecting to always get files as soon as you press the download button.

About that last bit, I just wanna say that don't be surprised if you end up with some uploads pending for months then the next thing you know it is downloaded. Things also depend on if the uploading peer is even connected or not.
If the file that you are downloading is not a very popular one then if it "Needs More Sources" might be because the few people that have the file are disconnected.
You'll just have to wait (again) for them to reconnect.

Murasame is right, however LW loves to be babysitted, this means that you can find more sources by searching for the file you download, LW will pick new sources instantly. I do that everytime my download slows to a crawl.
For the connection problem, be sure to open your firewall (if you have one) at port 6346 and forward that same port on the router setup web page (if you have a router) to your lan address (ie 192.168.1.100).

Bonne chance

Well I KNOW that it will nto get things downloading instantaneously. It always seems that things will download when i have a good conenction rather than a poor connection. This takes hours to happen from time to time. Also the connection is vwery unstable. I have disable all firewalls, Opened ports blah blah blah. I know the ports are opened. It is the L:imewire program is not stable and doesnt like to connect. This crap that you get a better connection as you are on longer is crap too. I mean the DSL customers I deal with on a daily basis would be upset if their connection started at poor and gradually worked up due to the olength of time you are connected. There seems to be very serious problems with Limewire and since I actually purchased Limewire I would like to see them actually make changes that will resolve these unstable conditions.

I have tried all the so called fixes by deleting the preference folders nd so on so forth and nothing has helped!
