You guessed it.. connection problems.

I came here in search of possible solutions for the problem regarding Limewire not connection after installing the new Service Pack addition. I should have not installed it in the first place and checked forums to see people have problems with it, even the eBay forums were warning not to install it.

I've read Benchwalla's solution and will try that soon. I currently have disabled the XP firewall and even disabled Zonealarm when opening Limewire, and have added Limewire to the 'safe-list' on each program. Not to mention I have cable broadband with no problems so far. Let's see if this works *fingers crossed*

Thanks for those links! ^.^ Only problem now is I have Limewire saying that it can't open necessary files since my Operating System doesn't support the characters used or something. At least it's actually connecting after downloading that patch, wow! Any one else with a smiliar problem about the OS? I downloaded the Beta version of Limewire by the way, like advised. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

OK, I have tried EVERYTHING stated, and the only improvement I got was that it stayed connected for half a second more :)

When I download the purger thing, it says its not a valid Win32 program... Seems like such a bad combination of bad luck for me. Just plain ****... now i gtg uninstall service pack 2

Which OS do you use? And which localized version?
We test it against Windows XP SP2, Windows 98, Linux, Mac OS X.
On English, French, and Japanese versions at least.
Other beta-testers may use Chinese versions of this OS.
They don't have reported such problem.

Which version of Java is installed on your system? If you have Windows, look for this information in your control panel, by clicking on the "Java" icon.

May be you've got a problem because your home directory is in a folder that has some strange characters (spaces in your home directory is OK, but may be you've got a complex user name that made Windows map your name to a very special home directory name).

This may also happen if you have upgraded your OS from windows 98 to NT/2000/XP and converted the FAT32 partition to NTFS, under a distinct OS locale (FAT/FAT32 filesystems do not record the codepage they use to create legacy short names, and Windows 95/98 were known to not always track their codepage correctly, notably if your AUTOEXEC.BAT was deleted accidentaly, dropping the CHCP command needed to specify the system locale before Windows was started). Using CHKDSK may help correct the legacy short names to match with Unicode encoded long names displayed in Windows Explorer.

I have windows ME, and I just downloaded it and everything like that, and every time I try to connect, it says "connecting" for about 3 seconds and stops. I have tried looking through the faqs and I can't find a solution. On the limewire.com website, it only gives tips for windows xp, which is extremely annoying to me at this point. Any solutions?

Mine finally works!

I disabled the new Windows firewall and when I looked in my McAfee file, found that for some reason, my LimeWire connection had been disabled (I didn't do it). I allowed access, deleted the .limewire preference files, made triple sure that Limewire wasn't running, downloaded the jar files into the Limewire program file and restarted.

I've been trying to fix this for a few days, so I guess my only suggestion is patience and try everything. I had no reason to think McAfee would suddenly drop LimeWire from my allowed programs, but it did (and it was the only thing changed). I also made sure the Windows firewall was absolutely disabled (there are two or three areas where you have to tick a box off to disable).
