![]() I have windows ME, and I just downloaded it and everything like that, and every time I try to connect, it says "connecting" for about 3 seconds and stops. I have tried looking through the faqs and I can't find a solution. On the limewire.com website, it only gives tips for windows xp, which is extremely annoying to me at this point. Any solutions? |

![]() Mine finally works! I disabled the new Windows firewall and when I looked in my McAfee file, found that for some reason, my LimeWire connection had been disabled (I didn't do it). I allowed access, deleted the .limewire preference files, made triple sure that Limewire wasn't running, downloaded the jar files into the Limewire program file and restarted. I've been trying to fix this for a few days, so I guess my only suggestion is patience and try everything. I had no reason to think McAfee would suddenly drop LimeWire from my allowed programs, but it did (and it was the only thing changed). I also made sure the Windows firewall was absolutely disabled (there are two or three areas where you have to tick a box off to disable). |

![]() McAfee is not alone to do that. In fact, Computer Associate (that bought the "PestPatrol" anti-spyware tool) does this too in its "eTrust" tool. The culprit is PestPatrol, whose database of spyware signatures is notoriously outdated, and contains MANY false positive (including vital components of Windows XP's networking). PestPatrol has been completely left unmaintained for many months, probably because of lack of financial resources, which led to the company being sold and acquired by Computer Associates. The false positive that harms LimeWire is caused by the way they detect KazaA (which is effectively a true spyware), but that cause almost all Gnutella servents to be disabled too (this includes not only LimeWire, but BearShare, GTKG or others too): they block the program names only because they share some common ports, or a handler for the Magnet protocol (that they disable too). If you have recently updated your CA "eTrust" antivirus or security suite, and have discovered that it contained a new anti-spyware tool, you should better not enable it as it is directly based on the very bad PestPatrol signatures database (but keep its antivirus function active!), and use other more serious anti-spyware tools (Ad-Aware, Spybot Search&Destroy, SpywareBlaster), which in addition are free and supported by a large open community of users. May be in some future, eTrust will become reliable, once CA will have cleaned up the old anti-spyware database. But for now this feature is still a beta for eTrust, and it will remain at this state for at least a full year.

![]() It seems I spoke too soon. I had disconnected this morning and now that I'm trying to reconnect, I can't. Every single setting is the same as it was this morning and I'm still not able to connect. It sounds like a larger issue than just a firewall at this point. |

![]() Ok I have OS X and I've tried to delete the directory and its still not working. Also, I don't have the "sharing" options in my internet preferences menu, all I have is .Mac, Network, and QuickTime options so nothing is working. I haven't been able to connect for about 2 weeks now. ![]() |

![]() alpha28ca, it seems that your OS is either 10.1 or 10.2 (if Jaguar didn't have a firewall). Anyway, where are you trying to connect from? Keep in mind that universities and companies tend to block P2P. Go to Limewire->Preferences->Bug Report. Click for an example and get to the part where it says "Recieved incoming this session". "False" means a firewall is prolly blocking your access. "True" is the opposite.
