Help Thanks for your help Trap_Jaw. Please could someone else come to my aid! Thanks |
Pity that the links trap_jaw gave you didn't help... You say, "... on a network..." Can you explain more ? Also, what possible other changes have been made to the system ? We don't know if you are the Administrator of the mentioned network so it is possible to assume for now that someone has altered some of the configs of your network... And, can you include a recent history of your LimeWire updates or re-installs, please ? |
Ursula Thanks for taking some time. I am not sure what sort of network exactly. I am guessing it is LAN. I am not the administrator and it is possible that some stuff has been changed recently. I am no longer able to log on to java type chat applications. My AOL Messenger is also logging itself off constantly. I don't know which version I had previously but it was only downloaded 6 months ago. 3.8.10 was downloaded this week. Do you need any more information? |
If you are connecting from a LAN, there is a possibility are that somebody (possibly intentionally) blocked certain ports preventing you from connecting to Gnutella (or most other p2p networks, including instant messaging ). Do you have access to a HTTP or a SOCKS proxy? If so, there might be an easy way to connect to Gnutella, circumventing most of the blocking mechanisms the administrator of your network might have installed. |
HTTP AND SOCKS Trapjaw, I am afraid that I have no idea. I use Yahoo Messenger without any problem and AOL is working too, so I guess that these aren't blocked. My AOL IM is connecting using a http protocol, using a proxy, though the server, port 8080. Does this help give you any clues? Thanks |
a proxy on port 8080 is usually a HTTP proxy. You could try downloading LimeWire 3.9.3 beta and entering this proxy address as HTTP proxy in the options. |
