Ultrapeers?

I have been running limewire pro for a few years now, In my experiance it is currently far and away the best p2p software around. But something has bothered me for a while now. My connection always says Turbocharged and my shares are over 3,000 files. But yet I only connect to 6 or 8 ultrapeers and nothing else. My question is this normal? No complaints at all, as a matter of fact the Linux version plain rocks! tnx

Hey Chaos--I was hoping a Linux user would respond, but in the meantime, no it doesn't look normal, but it could be if you are a major contributor. I'm assuming here that you have the tools->options-> Speed setting "Allow this client to become an Ultrapeer" checked.

If your shares are using up a lot of your upstream bandwidth, especially on startup, the code might decide the network demand is more for your files than the 6-7KB/s needed for message routing as an Ultrapeer. Ultrapeers shield the leafs from much unecessary traffic, leaving the leafs freerer to serve files. 1 ultrapeer normally services about 30 leaves, and leafs get just as good search results as ultrapeers.

btw--The if you scroll through the tools->options->bug report->sample report there should be a line that says "accept incoming this session=true" (or false). Since you serve so many files, I'm betting yours will say "true." The tools->statistics->Advanced->can also give lots more info about your connections.

Too, if demand for your shares falls, you'll probably see your client switch to Ultrapeer.

HTH until a Linux expert shows up. Cheers

You got me looking in the right area, I didnt ever run the "bug report" because I didnt feel the need to. I think it's due to my firewall(s). I have forwarding enabled (6346:6347/tcp) on my router that seems correct? I've punched two holes through my software wall at 6346 & 6347 tcp. When I have shields up do a scan I get all ports stealthed except 6346 & 6347 which say "closed", now is closed normal for this type of scan or should they say "opened"?

Port forwarding on 6346 should be TCP and UDP. See jum's post here
I'd expect 6346/7 to show "open", but if the bug report shows "accept incoming this session=true" that should be enough.

That fixed everything! Your help is greatly apperaciated! I turned on 6346/udp & tcp and boom! tnx om!
