i am running windows xp with limewire 4.0.6, i have the firewall deactivated, and have tried pretty much all the tips from past threads. i also have alltel dsl. i have never been able to get limewire to connect, but it loads up fine. i would gladly pay the $18 for pro if i could just find out how to connect to the system

try this

did you try uninstalling and reinstalling everything? if so, try it again but make sure you get rid of everything that limewire and java installed with it. you gotta delete everything or else it won't work. hope that helps, good luck!:)

Bball, did you know that XP has a built-in firewall? You have to make sure it's deactivated (or permits LW to connect) before you can try to actually connect.
T-Money, paying for Pro is highly probable that it won't solve your connection problems: the Pro version is only very subtly different from Basic (as stief says, it's more like a donation). If you can't get Basic to work with your configuration, then it's very likely that Pro won't do you any good. As pissedoff suggests, try dlding the latest java (make sure it's the latest and do a fresh reinstall, meaning that you have to trash LW's preferences (I'm not sure that that's how it's done on Windoze) then Uninstalling, redlding the installer and reinstalling the application.
See what happens and post back.

I found my problem, and maybe the problem of other dsl users. i called my isp and found out that they have their own firewall built into the router. it takes about 5 minutes to disable it and they walked me right through it, i already have 2 cd's burned and ive been connected for 3 hours now. hope this helps
