I cannot connect

I have downloaded Limewire and installed it, I think successfully. However when I open it, it is disconnected and will not connect. Could this be because I am operating on a network and behind a firewall. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

W95, T1, firewall. Version 1.5 worked fine. 1.6 seemed to install OK. No connection. Looking at connections tab, it tried router and nutellahosts, then nothing. Removed from system, downloaded and installed 1.4 (had erased 1.5). Still nothing. What next? Internet connection was completely normal at all times.
