Ultrapeer connections After LW had started up, I noticed that there wasn't any Ultrapeer connections like usual. All I had were leaf and peer connections and there was about 30 of each. While I had that type of connection with all of the peer/leafs, I had a great speed increase of downloads and also I noticed that I was getting a hell of a lot of upload requests, which doesn't bother me considering that I have a cable modem, but I though it was pretty cool to see LW run like that. How can I get it to run like that all of the time? |
TheCuz, You were acting as an ultrapeer. The bottom of your screen shows the mode you are running in. I suspect Limewire chooses ultrapeers based on connection speed and history of length of connection times. There may be other factors that others can elaborate on. Norm |
"How" you ask? You asked HOW to get it to be an ultrapeer more often. I'm sure there is a more technical algorithm on what determines it. But I'll give my theory here anyway. Example: I'm usually an ultrapeer. I went home from college for 3 weeks, and when i came back, my limewire made me a leaf. I messed around with it, but nothing helped. After putting all settings back to normal, I just left it on for for a few hours, and I guess it switched, because the next time I connected (after rebooting for a random software installation), it immediately gave me ultrapeer status and never went down to leaf again. -- THEREFORE: Since you have a cable modem (higher bandwidth capability) I bet if you just leave it going a long time, or even up most of the time, then it will probably always become an ultrapeer. (Corrections welcome.) |
This type of connection was made right away when I started the program. I have it set to be a ultrapeer all the time and would like to see it be that way all of the time. I was getting awesome download speeds along with a ton of upload requests as well, which I think is cool as all hell. I try to keep it up as much as possible, with out having it run 24/7. Is there anyway know to force it to make that type of connection, or is it you're at the mercy of the program making the choice. |
