Post Firewalled users

I think that firewalled users who close their ports to incoming Gnutella users are nothing more than freeloaders. I am behind a firewall, but have port mapping to my PC to allow other users to download from me. Please - will others do the same.

even if you are behind a linux firewall and use portmap, chances of your connections to drop is very high.

I used both configurations, LimeWire just do not do well with firewalls, especially v 1.3

Ell1,

It is impossible for users to open a port for LimeWire to connect to others with yet close their system to incoming Gnutella requests. When the ZoneAlarm user starts up LimeWire, they are asked if they want to allow LimeWire to act as a server or not (assuming they haven't already answered this question and clicked the box for remembering the answer). If the user does not allow LimeWire to run as a server then they will not be able to connect to any other peer. It is also impossible for two users to download/upload from/to each other if both are firewalled. For more information, see http://www.limewire.com/support/faq.htm . There is some good information on push requests and how LimeWire operates on a firewalled computer.

Additionally, if you have a static IP address, you can bypass the push request sequence and allow users to connect by using the Force IP address feature (within LimeWire). If you have a dialup connection or receive your IP from a DHCP server, then don't even think about it.

OK. I'm behind a firewall and have a static IP (though I don't think it is a real IP, only an intenal one to the network)
If I want to use 'Force IP' what IP am I supposed to stick into 'Force to Address'?? (I would prefer not involving my network manager)

Default FIREWALL - HELP WANTED ?!

I have been using Limewire behind my firewall and it seems ok, but am wondering if it is affecting my performance.

I have a NETGEAR router/firewall.

While I use PORTMAPPING for other applications, I never used PORTMAPPING for LIMEWIRE. Should I? And if so, what port?

Also, do I need to push/force IP?
Again, if so, which? I have a private IP (static within my own home network so I can port map to my pc). Should I use this one?

A little help....

Don't be afraid to respond to my email address.
