connection problems

I dont know if this will help anyone but...

I have been having problems with connections and just out of curiosity i just continued to try to connect every 30 minutes and what do you know it finally connected. So where the problem is I dont know but I think just a little patience is necessary. But seriously Im beginning to wonder if it is the site rather than computer systems.

What type of connection do you have? What's your Operating System version (eg: Windows version 98/2000/XP) & if possible Java version? Limewire requires Java to operate & the newer versions of LW work best with the newer versions of Java.

Oh keep in mind, the more files you share, the easier it is to connect to more sources (people). This is because some people limit the people who are able to connect to them by sharing less than a certain no. of files (eg: 50 or more.) Also, what is your Locale Preferencing set to? You can find this in LW’s menu bar/Tools & I think it’s Options & Advanced (sorry I don’t have a windows version LW.) Locale Preferencing will enable you to connect to local people 1st for faster connection. See: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27617 for a rough description.

I am having the same problems connecting as everyone else. however my problem is I am technologically challanged. I am new to the systems of a computer and I mostly dont have a clue to what is being said. I have read most of the postings over the last few days and I have tried most of the things I understand. I really dont know much about the system I have only it is windows xp home editon programme I have turned off my firewalls through the control panel and I have reinstalled LW on several occasions. Is there like a link or an edition of pc for dummies that I can read. Honestly i should be blonde.

Umm megs009, please only post one thread about the same issue. People will find it & attempt to answer it even if it's initially accidentally put in the wrong section of the forum. To reply to a thread, go back to the thread, open it & at the bottom-right press the Reply button (not new thread button.)

So you use xp & you have been able to connect so that suggests you don't have a firewall issue. One way to check is to follow the instructions on this thread. It must be something else, but we will need more details as asked in my previous post & your settings in your LW Tools-Options & details that you've entered in these sections. We need to be sure you have set LW up properly with your settings to match your connection type, etc.

Force local IP doesn’t need to be ticked unless you’re behind a Firewall (I think.) Locale preferencing of 3 is fine. Modem setting should be changed when broadband is connected.
