Default help please

I have a mac OS 9.2, cable internet, limewire version 4.0.2. Ive had limewire for a long time and one day it said there was an internal error. now when i start it up it takes a long time to connect and then when it finally does it only connects to poor and wont return any search results... i dont know what i did differently to make it do that all of a sudden... is there anything i could try to make it work again? i dont think i have a firewall, but maybe when i installed or downloaded a game or something it started one? im not very computer literate so i dont know how to check for one... any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Internal error means basically (for me at least): "throw your Limewire away". Uninstall Limewire or keep it, dld it from the site, search in the Finder for LW's preferences and trash them, reinstall LW (I think that completely uninstalling and installing the new version, rather than simply upgrading, is better for your case).
Doesn't seem to work? Fine. Java's turn. Go to Java's site. Dld it. Find Java in the Finder. Uninstall it. Install the newest version. Launch Limewire. See how it works. Post back results.
