keeps showing disconnected

just subscribed to limewire as recommended on mp3downloadhq.com. once subscribed i was able to do a couple of downloads, the signal strength as shown by the green bars was good. once i went away and had to launch limewire by using the shortcut icon on my desktop the pages appear but it wont connect. the signal is poor (all red) when I try to connect using the file option it just keeps showing disconnected.
I am using windows me on a 56k dial up modem at home. I have norton professional antivirus software. I dont know if I have a firewall or not. My dial up connection has 1470 enabled so my tel no is not given out when phoning out, can any body please help?
I have seen previous threads suggesting lw be left on for a few minutes etc.. this doesn't seem to have helped.

I hope you downloaded LW from the official website: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml ?
To check for firewall see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=26886 & see what your result is.
Make sure you have LW properly configured for a dial-up connection. What platform & OS version do you use? Make sure you don't overdo your bandwidth. Don't simultaneously use 2 p2p apps & keep other net use to a minimum such as browsing & dwnlding from sites (eg-updates) whilst using LW.

I think you have the same problem as me. Is your connection signal all red with "poor connection" or does it say "disconnected" ?

just says disconnected

A couple more threads that you might be able to get some tips from for optimising your set-up: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

Failing that, & failing having given me answers to the above questions & details about your computer system & connection type, perhaps you could try the Beta instead: LW 4.1.5 The beta has solved many people's probs.
