LW does not launch at ALL.(i mean,at all)

XP system and i downloaded some update couple of days ago (prolly the servicepac 2)

The problem seems now to be this :

LimeWire does not launch at all. Nada. Nothing.Nothing happens.

I double click, nothin.
I go to the folder and click the exe. files.Nothing.
I reinstall,boot,destroy the folder,reinstall Beta4.1.5 and 4.0.8
Nothing.

I am aware of other peoples problems with bad connections but this does not seem to be that. LW worked fine for couple weeks.

Tried the search function too...
Have installed DIV X and SP 2 but nothing else.

After that LW is dead.

Any suggestions??

Lord of the Rings September 13th, 2004 01:50 PM

Read about xp sp2 b/c there might be a point made there that applies to you. I'll leave the other suggestions up to the connections specialists.

bebebe September 13th, 2004 11:42 PM

Thank you.

But my problem here seem a bit different.

Others get their LimeWire PROGRAM open, but they dont get their
connections or downloading to work.

I on the other hand dont even get the PROGRAM open!

Nothing, nothin happens. I cannot go even to the LW prefereces or see my downloaded or incompleted files.

Threre is,like, no limewire on my computerer (even if its there).

Double click on the shortcut: Nothing.

Even the hard drive doesnt start...

bebebe September 13th, 2004 11:44 PM

Forgot in a haste...

I have disabled my XP firewall.
For the duration of the using LW i disable my
Norton firewall too.

:(

Lord of the Rings September 14th, 2004 09:12 AM

Doesn't sound healthy at all! Have you tried running any file & disk utility softw to check your system out? I'm a mac person so I'm not sure about the best approaches for xp. For mac we have different 3rd party ones such as Norton Utilities. I'm presuming u have the most recent version of Java for xp.

bebebe September 15th, 2004 01:06 PM

Yup.
Have tried the Norton,Adaware,Spybot.
Nothing.

Microsoft conspiracy? :)

I use LW from mac too, no problems. (Though i have a different
place/service provider).

Dogtanian September 15th, 2004 01:09 PM

rough gess

Have u tryed redownloading the java or uninstalling it and reinstalling it try that?

bebebe September 15th, 2004 01:09 PM

You mean Java 2 Runtime enviroment SE 1.4.2_0.5

Size 108,00MB...

Wtfck?

108MB?

trap_jaw4 September 15th, 2004 02:58 PM

The runtime environment (JRE) not the SDK!

yuser September 17th, 2004 06:19 PM

LW exe. will not exe

I am having the same problem as bebebe.

I was on the network with Limewire working perfectly fine. Then I did two new things - I upgraded from Netscape 7.1 to 7.2 - and I upgraded DirectX to 9.0.c.

The next time I started up the system -
The icon for Limewire will not respond. I dig into the Limewire file and try again. No response. -- I upgrade to Pro 4.0.8.
Completely unistall 4.0.7. - Install 4.0.8
Still absolutely no response.

Could something between Netscapes 7.2 or more likely devilish Microsofts DirectX 9.0c have changed some essental settings for Limewire. ??

yuser September 17th, 2004 06:23 PM

N.B.

I should have mentioned that yes, I have run ALL the spywares, and done full system virus scans as well as Windoctor.

To no avail.

Thanks for any help.

stupididiot69er September 17th, 2004 10:58 PM

do you have he latest java
do you have a firewall installed
I don't think it's the two things that you did that made it impossible to connect so for how long ago did you get Limewire

yuser September 18th, 2004 11:53 AM

I don't know about whether I have the latest java. I do have a firewall.

But this is not about connecting.

The .exe will not open. None of the limewire files will open.

I had Lime wire running successfully - and then within a few minutes (after the changes to the sytem I described above) I could not get - the shortcut, the .exe file, even the .jar file to respond. --

Nothing, - not even a 'open with' dialoge box. I might as well be clicking on empty space.

And to answer your second question - I've had, and have been using, Limewire, in all it's incarnations since the 3 series.

It works swell on my desktop -- where I have not done any kind of upgrades lately.

stupididiot69er September 18th, 2004 12:15 PM

did you try opening the original file not the shortcut.
you might want to reinstall
go to add/remove programs to uninstall
than delete the .limewire folder @ c:/documents and settings/ (ashared location)\ **.limewire**
than delete the limewire folder usually in program files
but if you have any files or incomplete files in there that you want to keep you'd need to save them somewhere else

stupididiot69er September 18th, 2004 12:16 PM

hey bebebe did you solve your problem?

Lord of the Rings September 18th, 2004 12:23 PM

Sounds like sp2 issue to me. I know I suggested this earlier but sp2 secretely changes a no. of settings such as these. So LW stopped launching after you installed sp2 right?

Read above post first.

As I and yuser stated we have done the show of re/installing.

Nada.

Nothing works.

I now use LW from my mac in my office and forget about this PC shtikk...

Lord of the Rings September 20th, 2004 10:01 AM

Touche. I'm a mac person myself. lol
Have you tried to boot to the OS disk and run a repair. It could be a registry issue. From Start/Run dialog, note anything? Perhaps I could also add this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default...2Futility2.asp

bebebe September 20th, 2004 10:10 AM

Hi LOTR!

What do you mean by "boot OS disk" and "run a repair"?

I tried to run LW from Start/Run section.
Nothing.

It wont even open the Limewire Icon in picturewiever.
The folder is,like,empty...even if there is all the neccessary
stuff. Nothing happens. Nada. Nienete. Nix. Nej.

Well...

Lord of the Rings September 20th, 2004 12:00 PM

Also this solution (might work.) That's to do with connecting but it 'might' also fix your prob. But yours sounds more like an error in installation.

Not launching

bebebe - it looks like we're on our own on this one. No one seems to get that we've done all the uninstalling /reinstalling, - diagostics, - and launch attempts from various LW locations., . . .

Although SP2 was not the cause of mine, - obviously something has changed an intrinsic setting or registry value. when we updated.

I don't know if it's the same for SP2 -- but unfortunately after upgrading to DirextX 9c -- the restore function of XP can't take me back to an earrlier restore date before this all happened. There is an indication right there that DirectX changed something so completely that restore can't roll it back.

Anyway -- for now I'll keep researching and just use the desktop - which still works.

Good Luck!

guatetaliana September 24th, 2004 10:35 AM

yuser and bebebe, I'm with you both! Same exact situation, and Yuser, my problem also started right after i installed Netscape 7.2 (i never had Netscape before that).

After that installation, LW just plain won't start up. It worked fine for 1 and a half years, and then i installed Netscape and now...nothin. I tried reinstalling, i checked the Java installation, I've done everything, and nothing works. I spend a lot of time double clicking every icon I can find.

I'm sad that nobody on this forum knows anything about this problem.

ursula September 24th, 2004 10:36 AM

This may only serve as a reminder for you, yuser, BUT others may like to have it pointed out to them that the dreaded Micro$haft does give a warning that the DirectX upgrades CANNOT be uninstalled.

Also, for others who may be reading this thread, it really is worth having a long look at

That's nothing !!!

Just imagine how sad many others here are now because we have no idea about anything related to your

OS
Computer
LimeWire version
internet connection info
at school or not
etc., etc.

Please post as much info about your setup as you can... In your FIRST post !

and... If you're unfortunate enough to be running XP,
ANY updates for now must be assumed to be suspect re: settings changes. Not only SP2.

Cajunhellcat,

Some people have had this problem with Java 1.6.0_01;) Try this version instead. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Also try changing compatibility (point 5 in the 'fixes' thread).
