It will be your language setting! Go to LW's menu & have a look at the 2nd or 3rd menu choice. Look down until you see english & click it. Keep in mind that normally the 1st menu choice is file & the 2nd is view. Go down view list & bottom choice (should be language) & there you'll see english.

Aaah, another one who hasn't read the rules...:( What must we do to make people read them?

Anyway, it's possible that you have the multilingual version and something happened and the language setting changed to a language that uses different characters, apparently not supported by your PC (for example, Japanese, Arabic...)
If that's the case, launch LW and go to the second or third tab, select the last option and choose the language. Something like this:

They might not even see these details b/c everything is boxes, etc. However you might see a (V) for view.
I forgot to mention, you MUST restart LW after changing the language for it to take effect.

Connection and Language problems

I've run Limewire for six months no problem. Since installing SP2 it can't find the connection. Have disabled Security Center. Zone Alarm is Java enabled. Also I'm getting what looks like a Norse language instead of English, even after doing clean installs. Checking the English option in the Languages pulldown, then restarting doesn't make any difference. Ares and Shareza both work no problem, but I much prefer the Limewire interface. Anyone know if the new Beta addresses these issues?

theblackbear I'd suggest you update your Java version (I believe one of the versions of Java had some issues with language.) If you want to try out the beta 4.1.5 (click on link) , don't be shy (pro users can find pro version beta at bottom of their dwnld page.) It's a great version & has solved issues for some people. As for SP2, I'd suggest you search the forum for SP2 or service pack. It's ben discussed a lot lately. There's been connection issues due to it but unfortunately there's not a single simple answer for everyone. Some things help for some but not for others.

Java

Thanks, LOTR. I'm running JAVA 1.3.1_04. What's curious is that the language issue came up at the same time as the connection issue: when I installed the SP2. In other words, Limewire was in English with this version of JAVA for six months with no problem. The other funny thing is when I tried to reinstall LW today it was half in English and half in the Norse (?) language, and remained so when I chose English as the language option and restarted. And, of course, my download was supposedly the "American/Canadian" version of LW.
