I also had a connection problem with SP2...FIXED

I just upgraded to SP2 and couldn't get LW to connect, even when opening the ports through the firewall or disabling the firewall completely.

After you have followed the steps on opening ports and re-initializing your preferences make sure that you start LW before you run Internet exploder. I realized that IE was running, so I closed LW, closed IE then re-ran LW and I have a turbo charged connection.

I'd be interested in knowing why IE interferes with LW.

Hope this helps.

I was just coming to post this same thing. I've been having intermittent problems connecting (XP Home, SP-2 disabled using McAfee, LW 4.0.8 Pro) and today I noticed that when I launched LW before opening anything else, it went to TurboCharged in about two seconds. If I was working on anything else earlier, even if I closed all the open windows, LW wouldn't connect beyond Poor.

I just rebooted and started LW before anything else and sure enough, right to Turbo.

not me

No - I've still got major problems since upgrading to SP2 -

I have disabled the XP firewall completely,
Checked my Norton firewall settings are the same for Limewire,
Am not runing IE before or during,
Tried changing port settings,

The thing is, it does still connect to one or two downloads but not many at the same time (if any at all) and at very slow connection speeds. It is also taking several attemps to get an initial connection to the gnutella network (if at all) and then it is a poor connection.

So there's no black or white working or not working, just very intermittent.

I am very curious about this quote from another thread "Try not to force resume too many files or else it'll have an effect upon your connection & search quality"

because I have obviously been forcing a lot of files in testing for resolution to the problem. I would like to know why doing this could cause further problems, when in fact it is the most likely thing you are going to do when trying to fix problems.

Before I uninstal SP2, any ideas?

Just to say the patch for XP SP2 fixed it for me - the patch which stops XP limiting your connections per port.
