I can't connect to limewire at all! :*(

*quotes Lord Of the Rings (Moderator): & list all your tech details: OS version, SP's, Java version, connection type, Java version, LW version, Router type, firewall types, anti-virus apps, where you're connecting from; home, work, school, etc. Any other relevant information that you think may help. Try to make your post descriptive, specific, and clear so members can quickly and efficiently help you. And include mention of your bug report result."

okay, I'm using Windows XP,
I have all of the windows updates (so service pack 2?),
*I DON'T KNOW WHICH JAVA VERSION, HOW CAN I CHECK?* ADSL,
Limewire 4.0.8,
I don't know if there's a router,
the windows firewall that comes with the SP2,
Nortons Anti-Virus,
I'm connecting from the dorms at university (some of my friends-in the dorms- are able to connect, whereas I can't!),
my bug report says "Recieved incoming this session"- False

Limewire only tells me that it's 'connecting', or is 'disconnected', and it has never actually connected. :(

I hope that someone can help me.. :D

Connections is not my strength so I'm hoping others members will join in on this. To allow access for LW thru XP's firewall see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

As for SP2 See: SP2 & Limewire: relax 3rd party Patch & methods & if necessary also MS SP2 Patch I don't know the difference.

For Norton AntiVirus see: Norton Clearance for LW

Java autoupdate: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Connecting from the dorms at university is a common problem people have nowadays b/c more & more colleges are blocking p2p due to them using up too much bandwidth & total dwnld quantity (colleges pay big money for it.) It's also not new to hear that one person can obtain access but others can't in a dorm.

I have a suspicion & I could be wrong, but it may be a situation where a particular port is open but only to one computer according to the way the router works. If that's so it's a router issue. How to combat it, my guess would be to try alternative ports. But if you're going to try alternative ports you'll also need to allow access to them on your xp firewall & change the port setting you've chosen within LW itself. LW's menu Tools-Options-Advanced & Port & Firewall. You probably also need to force ip.

Alternate Port Selection: This thread OR That thread.

If you connect, try not to dwnld too many files simultaneously.

Steady on, Kemosabe! Now I have to sort out my firewall so that the masses can download from me. Being a computer gumby, it might be a long hard road. Off I go to the upload/download probs.
Tally Ho!!
