I need help getting started!!??

I've never downloaded anything before, so this is greek to me. I recently installed Limewire and everything went well there. But when I go to the page where it tells me to search the type of music that I;m looking for, it gives me this error message that says "You are not connected to the network. To select, connect from file menu. I keep doing this, but it keeps telling me this. I have looked over the FAQ's and that did not work. I followed the instructions about adding gnutella because of my firewall possibly blocking it and that did not work. Could you help me, I just want to download some music and it's so frustrating.

It sounds as though LW's access is being blocked. Do this test & we'll know, is your result true/false: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Also what type of OS version, firewall, connection type & devices (modem & router models), Java version?

Need help again

Okay, I checked the bug report and it said its false in the part you told me to look under. I'm using windows xp. You also asked me my version type, where would I find that, because I don't know. I saw in one of the other postings that if we purchased the two year membership, we've been scammed, well like an idiot I did. (I knew it was too good to be true). What should I do next? And where do we go from here?

I'll reply to your 1st question a little later. If you purchased it very recently try to have the transaction cancelled. This is where you should dwnld LW: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml & you can list where you got your present copy from here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28751

You need to tell us about your set-up. Did you insall the XP SP2 update, what model of modem & routers are you using, what firewalls you have, where you're trying to connect from: home, school, work, etc. ? Under LW's Help menu you'll see an option for About... this will tell you the version of LW.

Again, read thru that link I gave you about memberships & take any advice listed.

Connecting issues

Hey thanks for the advice. Where would I go to cancel their membership? Or should I call my credit card company? I'm really leery right now! To answer your questions about my pc, I installed xp. I am connected from my home pc and the only firewalls I have are windows firewall and Norton Security Ctr. The Lime wire version is Limewire 4.0.8. Again, I'm not computer savvy, so how can I tell what type of modem and router. If this helps any, I use dial-up to connect to the internet.

HELP

i cant get this thing to work. ive read through the forums and ive tried it all. i looked under the bugs suggestion where it says true or false, and it says false.

i turned off my XP firewall, but i also had it on and set the ports and all that that it said in the connection problems website.

i connect from home on my dell. i use roadrunner cable wireless internet connection. i also have norton home security, but my trial version ran out, so i my firewall has automatically been shut off.

i dont know what else i can do and it is extreamly frustrating. PLEASE help. before i cry. thanks

Applebottom: I'd call my credit company & cmplain that you found out it was a scam. View you way thru this thread about membership scams: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28751 There's a few pages but there's some advice there.
Your modem should have a brand name listed on it. Also, somewhere perhaps on the bottom or side it will have a model no. To make sure about your XP firewall & Norton security see: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml You'll see a reference link for Norton at bottom of page. Follow their directions.

Roadunner: Please tell us the brand & model no.'s of your modem & router (if you have one) & also check your Norton setup for LW to be on the safe side.

roadunner: OK, you'll need to follow the directions for your Gateway here to forward a port (use port 6346): http://portforward.com/gateway/wcg-portforwarding.htm

Also in LW's menu Tools-Options-Advanced & click onto Firewalls: enter port 6346 & click the option box for force IP. See sample image below:
