Sure, we'd love to help you but 1st you must give us some details. Otherwise it's like trying to use mental telepathy. Tell us your OS version, Java version, any firewalls you have & what type, your modem & router brand & model, & where you're trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)

live-wire-victim November 15th, 2004 02:52 PM

i have a LAN connection

umm... i have windows XP (whats os?)

router

and at my home

Thank you, you've answered half of my questions. OS is Operating system. Are you aware of having any firewalls? Have a close look at your modem or where the modem connects to the 1st computer or midway device. Find out its name & there should be a model no. on the top, side or bottom. How is your system setup? Does the modem connect to your computer or another or to a midway device such as a router or switcher? ALL these details are very important so we DO NEED to know what these specific devices are so we can solve your problem. Don't rush, make sure you have all the answers to all these questions before you repost. If you have XP then you have XP firewall. Have you seen how to give LW access through it? See here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml & then do this test: Bug Report test & sample image- click me After yo have done the XP firewall configuration, then do the bug report & post back whether it's True or False. Another thing you can try is deleting LW's prefs folder found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

i have linksys and i am the main computer. i supply internet to my house. the modem connects to a router that has a wireless connection to other 3 computers in the house. one of them has lime wire and it works on that computer

i do not have any fire walls. i shut them down becuase they always cuase problems like this.

that bug test thing does say false on all of them.

i tried giving LW acessess through the firewall the way you told me and it didnt work. that just completely took me of the net, also i have tried deleting the .limewire folder. nothing.

i cant connect and i never ever could. i just cant connect to the Gnutella net work.

Linksys modems tend to act as a nat. You may need to forward a port thru it depending on the model. Can you have a close look at it & find out what the model no. is & post it back please. There should be a model number on the top, side or bottom.

the modem connects to a router
So you have a separate router. What brand & model is your router? This might also require port forwarding.

live-wire-victim November 16th, 2004 04:39 PM

man this is complecated

ok my modem model # is DAZ8821F

the router is a linksys model # 3839A-WRT54GV2

i dont know what you mean my nat.

there you go. all the numbers

Lord of the Rings November 16th, 2004 07:26 PM

Here are the instructions for forwarding a port for the linksys model WRT54GV2 & you should choose port no. 6346. You'll also need to Force IP within LW using the same port number. See LW settings instructions for Force IP: (& image sample) This should fix your problems. It would be worth doing another incoming test to ensure that everything is OK. Tell us how you go. The only points about your modem are 2 plus & minus reviews: here & also here

to wierd

hmmm. wow this is very complicated. :(

i dont think i should do this. im just going to uninstal it.

i used to have bearshare and it worked for while then it stoped so i went to lime wire, same problem. i think that ports have nothing to do with it. and if it does i have no idea how it got deleted.

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2004 02:28 PM

The instructions are laid out for you. If you don't want to do it then you're probably not ever going to have successful p2p use with any app. Router modems do make things a little more complicated, but really the complications are only surface deep when you 1st look at it. With clear instructions you can fix this issue if you're motivated.

Whatever. Give up easy at the 1st hurdle. fair enough. I have other people to help. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :) If you wanted to play a game over the net, you'd also have to open up a port, in fact quite a few ports! The same is true for video conferencing which needs many ports open.

It was my ISP who helped me open a port for my modem-router that I bought off them, so I could use LW.
