help i have connection problems

i have aol 9 and every time i connect to lime wire after about 10 mins or so lime wire gives me an error report "there may be a fire wall or you do not have a internet conection" lime wire is enabled to have full access to the internet and the fire wall that came with server pack 2 on xp pro is off. i connect to the internet with a bt voyager 100 usb adsl modem via broadband. when i lose connection aol sticks for a bit b4 it shuts down and when i try to shut down the pc it gets to saving your settings and just stays there. i have to shut down the pc by the on off switch and i dont think this is good for my pc. if you can hellp please let me no by e-mail or reply to this post i will be most greatfull if you can hellp me. thanks in advance from ( badboy1967 )

Hi do you have any other net equipment such as router or is your usb modem simply direct. Where are you connecting from (home, school, work, etc.) ? It might be worth havng a look at this thread about AOL (click on link) Also do this test (click on me) & tell us whether it's true/false.

i have connection problems part 2

further to my last post "help im having connection problems" in "connection problems" forum.

when i right click the lime wire icon and click "run as..." i have a box with a tick in it and it states under it " this option can prevent computer virus from harming your computer or personal data, but selecting it might cause the program to function improperly" and when i click the ok tab i get a lime wire lancher error message stating "lime wire was unable to load" please download and install lime wire again.

could this be anything to do with my problem (please see previouse post as above)

if this will sort my problem will removing the tick from the box harm my computer?

thanks in advance to any one that can hellp me from (badboy1967)

aol

straght from aol no other connection

Lord of the Rings November 15th, 2004 04:08 AM

To make aol inactive this is what I found, but I don't know if you want to disable it.

I suppose you can try to disable it & see if that makes a difference. See Point 37 about aol (interesting reading.)

What is your set up? 1. Which Operating System version do you use? 2. What brand name & model number of modem do you use? 3. Where are yo connecting from: home, school, work, etc.? 4. What type of firewall do you use?

If you're a windows user update your Java: Java 1.4.x OR Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

That's fine. Sometimes one p2p app is more suited to one person's setup than another due to different set ups. Your Voyager modem is by BinaTone. Some of their modems use NAT which limits incoming access thru most ports. At present I can't find anything on the Voyager 100 but I'll do some more searching.

Other people have had problems with your model of modem; see here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews6179.html & also HERE (hardware issue)
