Cannot connect. Used too have no problem connecting

I recently reformatted my hard drive. I used to have limewwire on my hardrive before i reformatted it, and it worked like a charm. Now I have downloaded LW again and it fails to connect. It start it up and it just says "Quality:Connecting" It used to say turo charged before i reformated my harddrive. I have WinXP comcast digital cable, and symantec firewall and windows firewall. (I know for sure that the problem is not the internet or the firewalls because i made sure they said they were allowing LW to access the internet. And because i had bothe the same firewalls and the same internet company before i reformated my hard drive.) Please help.

Tyler

Does LimeWire ever complain that you do not have any connection to the internet? If not, leave it running for like half an hour and see if it connects.

Crash607 November 19th, 2004 03:59 PM

ok i wil try that

Crash607 November 19th, 2004 07:35 PM

Nope didn't work. It is 2 hours later and it stil says connecting. Any more suggestions?

trap_jaw4 November 20th, 2004 02:17 AM

Well, my guess would be, that it's the firewall after all.

Crash607 November 27th, 2004 12:34 PM

It's not. I just checked to make sure that it was allowing limwwire to access the internet. What else can i do?

Lord of the Rings November 27th, 2004 12:37 PM

What type of connection do you have & what modem/router brand name & model number(s) do they have? Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Crash607 November 27th, 2004 12:47 PM

Cable/broadband(It's comcast), EtherFast cable modem Lynksys, the serieal number is: KBG1C22489

Crash607 November 27th, 2004 01:40 PM

Whoops forgot. I don't use the symantec firewall anymore last time i updated windows they they gave me there own firewall and vius protection and stuff. But i still do not think it is that beacause like I sad, i made sure it was allowing it to access the network.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 08:50 AM

I meant the model number of your Linksys not the serial number. Most Linksys modems use what's known as NAT technology whic blocks most port access. You will need to forward a port to give LW access but you need to give me the correct model number for me to give you the correct instructions on how to do it.

Also you will need to configure all your firewalls to allow LW total access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Double-check your settings!

Without doing these 2 things you have at least 2 things that are blocking LW's access to the net even if only partially blocking it.

Update your Java to: Java 1.4.x OR to Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Crash607 November 28th, 2004 09:11 AM

OK. Here is the model number: BEFCMU10

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 11:16 AM

You seem to have a newer model. I can't find specific instructions but it may be similar to another model. What you can do in the meantime is 2 very simple tests: 1. Test of Port 6346 which LW uses: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ If it says the test page was a success then that is not too bad. 2. Test for NAT blocking: http://www.u.arizona.edu/~trw/games/nat_or_not.php And it will tell you in a grey coloured box whether you are using a NAT device or not.

You may need to wait a little whilst I can find some advice on your particular model of modem.

Crash607 November 28th, 2004 01:14 PM

The firs test was a success, it said "This test page was a success." However the seconed page did not seem to work. At the top of the screen were 2 red boxes, the top one read: "It appears that the server admin has turned off PHP preprocessing for some reason. This means that this page will no longer work as intended. If you see "<?=$REMOTE_ADDR?>" reported for remote address then this problem still has not been resolved. Sorry, but I am at the mercy of the server adminstrator." And there was not gray box on the screen.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 01:25 PM

Go there again, there should be at least something written under the red text. What does it say? If you can't even load the page up properly then that definitely means you have a nat issue or perhaps in combination with something else.

Crash607 November 28th, 2004 01:44 PM

Here is everythingon the page.

Do I use NAT?

Until this is fixed, compare your local IP reported by this script with the IP reported from WhatIsMyIP.com, if they are different then you use NAT.

I couldn't make sense of the your text either-seems couldn't detect. But for me I got a proper response despite the warning in red text at the top. So follow what I've quoted & see what you get.

Lord of the Rings November 28th, 2004 02:04 PM

Why don't you become a member of the forum. At least then you'll get an email response when somebody answers your post. And many more options. Easier for you to contact other members or vice versa.

Crash6o7 November 28th, 2004 02:50 PM

this is all screwed up, I am really Crash607 but when I regestered like you said it does not let me post under that name and i have to be logged out. And also i must have NAT because the websited gave me 2 differend ip addresses.

Crash607 November 28th, 2004 02:54 PM

ok nevermind i jsut forgot to activate it.

Crash607 November 29th, 2004 05:00 AM

O and btw I don't have a newer model because i have had it for about 3 years now. Mabey the reason you can't find info on it is because it is so old.

Lord of the Rings November 29th, 2004 05:17 AM

I can give ou the main page for portforward.com & I suspect the differences between forwarding a port between the models is not dramatic. I'd guess they'll be similar. May I suggest you look thru the Linksys models (at bottom of page) & choose the one that is most similar to your modem softw. Use Port 6346 You will also need to follow the instructions on setting up a static ip.

After doing that, force ip within LW: Force ip instructions & sample image

After doing the above things you should find you'll connect much moe easily. Run LW for at least an hour to give it a chnce to connect properly 1st time around. Then check things by dong a test: Bug Report instructions & sample image & hopefullly your result will be true. Particulrly if you share files.

Crash607 November 29th, 2004 02:42 PM

Lynksys models at the bottom of what page? I could not fint any images

Crash607 November 29th, 2004 06:40 PM

NEVERMIND!!!!!!! FINALLY IT IS WORKING AGAIN!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP IM GRATEFUL THERE A PEOPLE LIKE YOU ON THIS FORUM IF I NEED ANYMORE HELP I WILL CONTACT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AGAIN THANKS A TON!!!

Sincerely,
Tyler

Crash607 November 29th, 2004 06:52 PM

Wait i can't say that just yet. When I did that bug report thing where it says incomingsession or whatever that was It says false. But I am Fully connected up to the bar "Excellent". And i dont know what else o do because i made sure my firewalls were allowing LW so........................?

Lord of the Rings November 30th, 2004 02:16 AM

Sorry I forgot to post the link to port forward.com Your router is probably similar to mine in that I can dwnld but for anybody to upld from me I had to forward a port. Here's the page: http://portforward.com/routers.htm & you'll need to set up a static ip if you don't already have one (instructions link on that page.)

Crash607 December 1st, 2004 05:50 AM

I stil don't see where it shows images of different lynksys models. So I can't tell you which one is simalar to mine. None the less, find instrucions.

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2004 02:22 PM

Click on any of the Linksys model names in brown text. They're all links! Then on the next page, click on 'Port Forwarding for the Linksys B....' That will take you to the page which has the instructions & sample images.
You will need to set up a static ip for port forwarding to work so click on that link to learn how to do that.

So one of these models use an interface very similar to yours. Probably best to have a look at one of the BEF models 1st.

After you have done that, then open LW & force ip: Force IP instructions & sample image

Lord of the Rings December 1st, 2004 02:39 PM

Try this one: Port Forwarding instructions & Triggering for the Linksys BEFSR11

Static IP Address guide & click on your Operating sytem version. eg: See win XP then click on that.

Are you using USB or Ethernet with your Linksys router??? Ethernet would be much more prefered c/c it's faster & USB can draw either or both power from your pc & also processing power which can slow your pc down!

Crash607 December 3rd, 2004 02:18 PM

i stil don't see anywhere where there is a picture of my model. I see images of how to forward and trigger it bot no pics of my lynksys.

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2004 03:14 PM

That's what I said earlier. Your model is not there. That site does not have all models of all brands. I can't find instructions for your specific model. But the instructions will be similar. You'll probably find it in your hand manual about how to forward ports. Other possibility is to use dmz I guess but you'd need to have a good firewall set up if you did.

According to this http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=592&scid=29 the Linksys BEFSR41 is similar. But if your model doesn't have the ability then I don't know. Do you use it in USB or ethernet mode? USB can use your comp's power & or processor.

I don't have any more answers. Perhaps you can double-check your firewall settings. Use force ip & wait for LW to settle down. Oh & keep your java up to date, etc. Java 1.4.2 (click on link)
