I still can't connect after reading your suggestions

I have read through many of the messages relating to connection problems and have tried the solutions that were suggested, but I still can't connect. The icon at the bottom of the screen won't go past 'connecting'

I have tried all the suggestions about the windows XP service pack 2 firewall and have enabled Norton software as suggested, as well as downloading the 'purger', but nothing seems to work.

I use windows XP and one-tel broadband.

I am new to all tis and am not very computer literate. Can anybody give me some plain English suggestions about what to do next? Please!

Thanks

What is your set up? 1. What brand name & model number of modem do you use? 2. Where are you connecting from: home, school, work, etc.?

Update your Java: Java 1.4.x OR Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Have yo tried deleting your LW preferences found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire & delete the entire folder called .limewire

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

1. My modem is the 'speedtouch 330'
2. I am connecting from home

I tried upgrading Java to Java 1.5 JRE and deleted the whole limewire folder after closing down all limewire connections.

After tis I ran through the limewire setup again, but I still have the same problem. Any other suggestions?

Your modem is a USB modem right? In that case the ports should be open.

Leave LW open for an hour & see if there's any difference. Do you have it set to connect on startup? If yes or no, you can try the other way around such as manually connecting from LW's File menu.

To find the connect on startup setting go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Connections & you'll see an option box which is either ticked or not.

Yes it is a USB modem and connectio is set. The only other thing I can see is that I can't set iTunes to 'share my music'. and press 'apply' it just unchecks.

does this give you any clues?
