I think I have tried it all, Still can't connect

I've read the the connection problem post here in this forum.
I have tried the firewall setting, post settings, deleted the .live file, tried the stuff in the "sticky" thread, reinstalled, deleted then reinstalled...

I am running windows XP pro with SP2, I am on a cable connection, my cable modem is a Cornerstone CM 200 (modle number: ARCD21517), my router is a 4 port Linksys (Modle: BEFSR41 ver.2), I have updated the firmware for this router.

LimeWire was working for me a couple of weeks ago but due to a complete computer revamp (formatting harddrives and reinstalling everything) I had to I had to download Limewire and reinstall it...

But since the reinstall I haven't been able to get a good connection to last more then a 1.5 minutes.

Any idea's on what I can do would be great help thanks.

Hi LokoLobo
You will need to forward a port to give LW total access. If yu didn't do this before then probably LW didn't function as well as it could have.

Use Port 6346. Port Forwarding for the Linksys befsr41 version 1 & 2 OR Port Forwarding for the Linksys befsr41 version 2 Firmware 1.40.2 are the instructions for your router. I'm not sure which one you shud use, you'll probably know yourself. Read the instructions very carefully!

You will also need to Force IP within LW. Force IP instructions & sample image

Might I suggest you also update your Java. Java 1.4.x OR Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Good luck. :)

still not good

I did the port forwarding, and the forced IP.. and the jave update again... and then went through and redeleted the .live file again..
and still only breafly do I get any sort of connection.

I'm starting to pull my hair out....

ok what next? :(

Go to this site & post back what message it says: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ This is a test of your port 6346. If it says it was a success then that's good. That should cancel out your modem as an issue if it were set up correctly for port forwarding.

Did that too...

Yep did that before to and had the same response as this time..

Your test page was a success!

My connection has gotten alittle better.. I can now get a poor to good connection for a couple of minuts at a time.. but that's about it..
before I had redone my system I was getting and excellent connection, so I know it's possible to get it again I'm just at a loss on how to do that now...

Still looking for anwsers...:(

It's working!

I just want to thank you for your help.
After letting LimeWire run on my system for a day with out doing anything more to it, I came back to find a solid Excellent connection. I have 4 servers that I have been connected to for almost 13 hours now and 8 more that show 4 hours or more.

I'm not sure why it decided to all of a sudden work but I want to thank you L.O.R. for all your help.:D

I'm almost afraid to shut it down now.. Crossing fingers hoping it will work again when I restart it.. :)

But anyways Thank your L.O.R. for taking the time to help me get LW working!

Ok I found out through neibors that are on the same cable node that I am the real reason for my bad connection to LW...

It wasn't a problem with my system or how anything was set up, but rather it was a cable node that went bad. I found out every one in my area on the same node had problems with internet programs that use alot of bandwidth...

Not even the cable company knew it was bad and didn't check on it until there had been a number of calls from this area..

Some flook... Who would have known that could have been the problem...

Anyways my LimeWire is up and running with a solid connection..
Thankyou L.O.T.R. I do believe I have a better connection now then what I did have before, so I don't think going through all this was a total waste... :)

Great news! Definitely opening a port for LW on your router would have improved things compared to before you had these problems. Thanks for reporting back your findings & results.
