Can't/won't connect I am a newbie to LimeWire and just have installed it on my work computer. It installed perfectly and will open, the problem I seem to have is it will only come up "connecting" but never connects. I am running Windows 2000 Professional on a network here at work (maybe LAN??) I have looked and looked for firewall options but can't seem to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
1 Attachment(s) Hi andyshowfan It really would help if you could tell us your connection setup. If you're on a lan are you the 1st in line or ? Try very hard to find out what modem & router brand name & model number you use. Oh I just realised you're connecting from work. You may need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image Try & find out if you can if there's a firewall. If you're connecting from work it's hard to imagine there won't be some kind of firewall/NAT router involved. Update your Java to 1.5 (take the JRE) Change your options to manual connect. And then go to File & select connect. To find them go here & untick the option box: windows: Tools>Options>Connections mac osx: LW Prefs>Connections |
I am connecting to the network with a "Realtek RTL8139(A)-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" I also tried forcing the connection as you laid out in the previous post. I am still only getting the "connecting" message. |
Realtek RTL8139 is for lan isn't it? Change LW to manually connect not auto connect (LW's menu Tools>Options>Connection & untick option box & press both Apply & OK buttons.) Then go to File menu & choose connect. Wait up to an hour for LW to settle down. Any difference? An hour does seem like a long time I know. After that, if still no success go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & it should say your test page was a success. If not then we'll see what can be done. |
This is what i did after trying nearly everything i saw I went and downloaded java incase mine was old then turned off the autoconnect and then rebooted opened limewire and waited about a min and now im connected Try that could help did for me Trying to help Attica |
Well it worked all night but wont this afternoon why is this limewire so hard to connect?? Attica |
Attica: Try leaving LW on for some time, say evaen up to an hour & see if it connects. If yes, do this check for us: Bug Report instructions & sample image And report back whether your result is True/False. Also can you tell us what type of connection you have. What modem/router brand name & model number(s) are these? Which Operating System version do you have (Windows 98, etc.)? DDid you install XP SP2? |
i have a toshiba pcx2000 cable modem 4mbps im on xp and no i dont have service pack 2 because both times ive installed it i had to restore my computer im going to try to wait until i connect ill see how it goes thnx for the help and that thing told me false |
Is the actual model no. Toshiba WRC-1000? You are getting a false response which means something is blocking your access for LW if only partially. Set ALL your firewalls to allow LW access with instructions here: ttp://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Many adsl & dsl modems nowadays use NAT which is comparable with firewalls in that it blocks most of your ports. If you can be more specific with your modem details then hopefully we can clear that up. ;) |
NAT checker Go to that site & ignore the top text in red! If there's a section below in grey, tell us what it says.?? (This test is not always valid for everybody.) |
i dont have a firewall no firewall at all nothing ... in grey it says initializing and gives me my ip addresses it says i dont use nat. and i had to install my router last night so i have a linksys router and i have NEVER had this problem with any limewire before now |
Attica don't panic. Tell us which model of Linksys router it is???? Also about your modem is the actual model no. Toshiba WRC-1000??? Which Operating System version are you using? (eg: windows 98, etc.) |
I have xp without sp2. My modem is daz8820f. My router is befw11s4 ver.4 |
im not gonna jynx this but im connected at the moment maybe it can stay this way lol |
You will need to forward a port for your Linksys. Port 1. Forwarding instructions for the Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 & you will need to set up a static ip & instructions are included with a link on that page. 2. You'll also need to force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image This should fix up the majority of problems. 3. Updte your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link) 4. IF you still have problems see: 'Some' solutions to SP2 problems & since there's no single answer to SP2 for every one. Do a search of the forum for SP2 for more solutions. |
well I can connect but i dont get crap for search results :( |
Did you forward a port on your router? Do the bug report test again. Is it True or False? If the issue is SP2, well, if you can't find a solution you can uninstall it. You don't need it! It was not designed for the individual home user! Here's some hints on optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. |
well yet again i cant connect so im gonna have to do everything again and i dont have sp2 and it says false and i always get the testpage is successful so i dunno |
I was refering to the Bug Report instructions & sample image within LW after it's been running for 30 mins or more. |
Thanx for the help lord Im connected and I think it may stay that way and Im gettin pretty good results. |
Fingers crossed! lol :D  |
