disconnecting

I have broadband and keep getting disconnected from limewire between 1 minute and 5 hours, mostly 5 mins. I never used to have any problems and am not aware i have changed anything.
I have the latest java 1.5.1 runtime.
When trying to reconnect it either fails or freezes the picture and disconnects me from using the internet.
Also, either connected or disconnected from limewire i have to turn of at the wall as am unable to log off and turn off the computer via the computer. When i do reboot the computer i can use limewire again for a limited time.
Also, when using limewire the internet is extremely slow,is that normal and again i have to reboot the computer via the wall- not good!
Are the settings in limewire tools anything to do with problem? I have a lifetime membership with limewire and broadband running at 1152kbps with a BT voyager 100 modem.
I have tried either cable or T1 setting and does maximum downloads make any difference to disconnecting etc.
I have always had norton firewall running and had no problems with limewire until now. Could anyone help?

Doesn't sound like normal LW behaviour. Have you checked with your ISP to see whether they've put any forms of blocks on p2p use? And is this only happening with LW?

When did this start happening? Did you install any other softw around the time this happened such as other apps or OS updates?

Whilst LW is open make a note of all your settings. Then quit LW, & then delete your LW preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Now try opening LW again. Leave it on for up to an hour to see how it is. Don't do anything with LW during that time. See if connection quality improves. If not, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image & post back whether your result is true/false.

I became distracted & forgot to answer to this. Limewire does not have lifetime membership! I think you've been scammed because you didn't get this from the Limewire website: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml I think you should have a look here & see if you can identify where you got your program: Membership warning: Beware And I'd suggest you cancel your transaction. No wonder you can't connect. You've been given a trashy copy of a similar program & what, paid twice the amount. LW is free. If you want the pro verson you pay $18.88 & get 6 months of customer support & free updates of the pro version.
