Ive tried everything but limewire still cant connect...any suggestions? please help!!

*HI* im wondering if you could help me...

Im on Windows XP pro and have limewire version 4.8.0

Ive had it for some time now but quite recently it has stopped working, I used to always have an excelent connection and really fast downloads but now I can't connect at all, I managed to connect again for about a day but the connection wouldnt go above poor and was very slow, now it doesnt work at all again.

when the program loads I wait for ages with it saying connecting and then it comes up with this;

"Your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking LimeWire from accessing the internet. Please check your connection or firewall settings and then select "conect" from the File menu to connect limewire to the network."

*I dont have a firewall blocking
*I do have an active inet connection
*I cant select connect from the file menu because the only selectable is DISconnect :S

Ive disabled my windows firewall so am not behind anything, I am on a network but it didnt cause any problems before

please help i think ive tried everything

thanks

You're using 4.0.8, not 4.8.0 (there is no 4.8). I suggest upgrading to 4.2.

Whilst LW is open, make a note of all your settings. Then close LW, delete the LW Prefs folder called .limewire. And found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

If you still have a problem, try forcing ip: Force IP instructions for LW
By the way did you update to SP2 lately?
