Are you using any other firewalls other than the XP firewall? For the most common firewalls here's the instructions for allowing Limewire (LW) access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Also can you tell us the type of connection you have? What brand name & model of modem & router do you have? Have you installed SP2? Please don't, you don't need it!

First update your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)
& then update to LW 4.2.4 : LIMEWIRE BASIC v. 4.2.4 (choose english installer only) But install Java update 1st!!!

Update your installshield install engine 1st before Java: update your installshield install engine.

You don't need to disable all your firewalls, just allow LW acess: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=30505

so disable my norton firewall?

Lord of the Rings December 2nd, 2004 04:49 PM

Good well done! :) Some people find that confusing but you've done really well. can you do a small test for me: Bug Report instructions & sample image And tellus whether your result is True/False? If it's false then can you have a very a close look at your modem & find out the modem model name & number? It could be on top or on the side or bottom of the box.

You see modems & routers that are used for adsl or dsl commonly use what's known as NAT shich is very similar to a firewall in theat they block port openings that LW needs. So we would need to allow LW access in a similar method to your firewall.

Sorry eluminatti but I might need to wait until tomorrow to complete answers to your problem. May I suggest you double-check your firwall settings. And also have a look at your modem manual. There should be instructions there about how to forward a port. Until tomorrow. ;)
