Default Can't connect...tried suggestions

I've tried the suggestions that are mentioned in this forum but nothing works. It's actually quite strange...I connected fine the other day and now I can't connect. It's done this to me several times where I'll go through a period of time where it won't let me connect. A few days later though, it's fine. Any suggestions?

I'm running WinXP with no firewall. I'm connecting through a cable modem. If you need any more info, just ask me. Thanks!

Running version 4.2.2 as well. I have 1 gig of RAM and I have 7 gigs of free space. <edit>

Modem is a PCX1100U (Toshiba Cable Modem), yes I'm using SP 2 and I'm using a Linksys router modem BEFSR41. I connect from home and the only firewall I have is the one that comes with XP (home, not professional) and it's not enabled. <edit #2>

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. What firewalls you have, 2. ram, 3. HDD space available, 4. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 5. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 6. Are you using SP2?

1. You will definitely need to forward a port for your Linksys: Port Forwarding for the Linksys BEFSR41 versions 3, 4, 5 and CA And very important is that you set up a static ip address based on your comp's id. After you foreward a port remember to save your settings. With some modems, you need to actually reboot them after these types of changes.

2. You'll need to force ip (which is the easiest part): Force IP instructions & sample image

3. Double-check your firewall settings b/c SP2 forces their settings back to default & also reduces connectivity: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

4. Make sure your Java is up to date: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)

5. I have a suspicion your Toshiba Cable Modem will also have nat firewall but we'll 1st see how things are from here.

6. If necessary you may need to check your SP2: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28437
