I need a lot of help

I am really confused. I have tried everything and it never works. I can connect to limewire and it always says turbocharged. I can search fine but when i click download it say connecting and then it will download (If at all) at below 1kb. I have tried to fix my firewall setting but under the bug test it still says false under received incoming this session. I have windows XP and i have disabled my Mcafee firewall. What Can i do to fix this problem.

With windows XP you have 2 firewalls (XP & macafee). Just double-check you have set them up correctly to allow both LW & Java full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

ALso can you tell us these things:
* Connection type,

* Modem & router brand name & model numbers,

* Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

High speed modems often also have their own internal firewall or NAT.

I have cable and my modem is a terayon Tj 715 i am trying to connect from my home computer. I have a wireless router and it is a D link DI 524

I just tried setting the stars to four on the search quality like one of the treads said and it helped but it still is not over 1 kb. Now more downloads happen at the same time but it still isnt over 1kb

You will need to forward a port for your D-Link, see here: Port Forwarding for the Dlink DI-524 & you should use Port 6346 Make sure you set up a Static IP, instructions in link at start of that page.

You will also need to Force IP within LW (which is the easy part): Force IP instructions & sample image

Update your Java: Java 1.4.2 (click on link)

Here's some hints for optimising LW: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.

Also try not to use the Resume button too often. Manual searches is safer for the health of LW. If you resume too many files they will queue for much much longer & cause havoc with your connection quality & slow LW down.

Thx Lord of the Rings i did that router thing and it came out like it was supposed to but i am still having a really slow download speed. Is it something that i should restart or is something that i should give more time.

Lord of the Rings December 14th, 2004 10:25 PM

Yes. Actually I wouldn't have done the port forwarding with LW still open. So that's probably a good idea. I don't know about your router - I have a D link 504 which is a combined router modem & after forwarding the port I needed to reboot the modem - I don't suppose you need to do that.?!

Do you run as an Ultrapeer?

shortguy7211 December 14th, 2004 10:45 PM

NO i dont run as a ultrapeer but i could try rebooting the modemn and router

Lord of the Rings December 14th, 2004 10:49 PM

You can try this: Make a note of all your LW settings (including Force IP). Then, whilst LW is closed try deleting your LW Preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Oh yeah do try rebooting them. When you restart them, browse back to make sure the settings haven't changed.
