Had it a day and it wont work, what a rip off!

A friend over the internet hinted me to buy Limewire Pro because its a lot better than the other file sharing software I had....

I was gladly to pay £10+ for a faster download/search software...

I installed it, it all was going smooth, I even added a new skin.... and also downloaded some files...but then the fun started...

My connection to AOL 9.0 Kept 'reseting', like it would disconnect for a second and then reconnect... and that made limewire do the same. This was frustrating, but after awhile it stopped.

Btw I have Mcafee Firewall and anti-virus.

Then when I came to start the software today it would show the hour glass for a second and then go, nothing happened....

It has been doing it since..

My question is, what was the point in buying broken software?

Why carnt I go on something I have just bought? I will really appreciate an explanation here and a very good one!

LW only asks to install Java 1.3 but LW needs better. Try either Java 1.4.2 (click on link)
OR else Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

You'll need to configure your firewalls here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml & it might also be worth seeing this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23895

May I ask what type of modem/router you use (brand name & model no.'s)?

ok...this is strange... I click on the Java 1.4.2 link u gave me and my internet completely goes off and thankfully it reconnects....

I have already installed Java 1.5..

I also configure mcafee and also checked out the AOL topic (nothing worked there).

I've heard of other problems with AOL with users who posted outside of the link I gave you. Sounds like some type of a clash there. Do you need to go thru aol?

Try this: Delete your LW Preferences folder called .limewire & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

I have also done that too :(

Is there any chance of me getting my moneys worth?

Did you configure your firewalls to allow LW & Java access? If you have a high speed connection & you obviously do, many have internal firewalls which generally use NAT. This may be one part of your problem. That's why I asked about your connection devices earlier.

You could try either a beta version or ealier version instead to see if it makes any difference.
You will find a link to the beta version at the bottom of your personal LW download page. For older versions I'm not sure. But you can get one here: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/
At least that'll help determine some things about the issue.

Once you buy softw, particularly online there is never any possibility for a refund or anything of that nature.

How do I get Java to allow access? I am using Mcafee, which file do I set for it?

My modem: BT Voyager 100 ADSL Modem

Have a look at the firewall link & at the very bottom of that page it'll link to your firewall. ALlow LW & either Gnutella or javaw.exe

Sorry I don't have experience with that so I can't be more specific. A of interest & B

There's port forwarding details for Port Forwarding for the BT Voyager 205 ADSL Route but not for the BT 100 so yours might not need it.

What else other than my firewall is blocking access to LW? I had a good connection yesturday but now the software wont even start!...

Nothing has worked yet :( and I already checked that link earlier.

Try right-clicking LW icon on the desktop & selecting use Win 2k version & also Run as ... showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator.

I am not a wind person per se, so you can either wait a day or two or try my other suggestion for trying out an older version. There are occasions when one particular version doesn't run that well on one person's setup compared to an earlier or later version. My apologies.
