Connection Problems

I've been having problems searching for songs to download. Everytime I type in something it says that Limewire is connecting, my search may not return many results until I'm fully connected. I haven't been able to fully connect. Is there something I can do to be able to download songs?

It's best to wait for LW to settle down after opening before searching or anything else. Depending on how many incomplete files & shared files you have this can take a few mins or up to 20 mins or so.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

I have waited for LW to settle, but gave up after 9 hours one day. I'm using Windows XP and in the control panel there is an icon that says Windows Firewall and it's on. I'm using a laptop that my brother gave me so I don't know the answers to the other questions.

1. You will need to configure your XP firewall so it allows both LW & Java full access. For instructions see here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

2. Also update your Java: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...radejava.shtml

3. And you can try deleting your LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire
