Search Problem!

I just purchases LimeWire and downloaded it to my computer. I tried doing a search and the search button is disabled/unavailable. I checked my firewall to see if the Gnutella ports I added still had access and they are good to go. How do I make this program work so I can search for files??

I have Windows XP, DSL connection.

Update your Java: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Persistent search problem

I updated the Java and it still won't enable the search button. What now?

1. You should type what you're looking for in the search box.

2. Make sure you can see the entire window. Drag the bottom right corner sideways & down to enlargen it.

Search/Connection issue

Even with something typed into the search box and the window maximized, the button is still disabled. At the top of the Limewire window it says "Disconnected/no files availalbe". I don't have my firewall enabled so why else would it be disconnected? I am obviously connected to the internet since I can use this forum. If I can't get limewire to work, how do I get a refund for the 20 bucks I paid for it?

It's generally best to try out the basic version of LW for free before going to the pro version.

Go to your file menu & select Connect. LW must be connected for it to be able to search. (That message also suggests you are presently not sharing files.)

Go to your LW menu Tools>Options & have a look at all the settings you can have.

still no connection

I clicked on connect. It said I was sharing 1200 files, but the circle is still red, I'm still not connected, and I can't search for anything. I'm fed up with this program and want my money back. How do I get the $20 I plunked down for a program that doesn't even work?

I've happily used the program for a few years & there's millions of others who have also. No softw will give you money back after purchase.

There's obviously something stopping LW from connecting. Something is blocking it. That's not the program's fault. But we can find out what the problem is if you're willing to work thru it.

Go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ What does it do? (it should say Test page was a success)

You will need to configure your firewalls to allow both LW & Java access (you at least have XP firewall); instructions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

You also use dsl which frequently use internal NAT firewalls within their modems or routers. Can you tell us your Modem & router brand name & model numbers?

Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

Problems

I just bought the program and when I do a search....I get results...ONLY on the left side of the screen. NOTHING at all in the download area...
What's my problem?

Lord of the Rings January 6th, 2005 07:30 PM

makowtom you need to select the particular files you wish to downld then press the Downd button. Otherwise nothing will happen. Nothing will downld unless you direct it to do so. Happy downlding! :)

http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ What does it do? (it should say Test page was a success) -- I tried that at it said the page was a success.

You will need to configure your firewalls to allow both LW & Java access (you at least have XP firewall); instructions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml---I followed those instructions too....still nothing.

You also use dsl which frequently use internal NAT firewalls within their modems or routers. Can you tell us your Modem & router brand name & model numbers?---Modem is Dacom-Telson I&C TV-1200.

Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? [/B][/QUOTE] --I am connecting from home....which is on an Air Force Base in korea.

The test page is a very simple test to find out if you're being blocked from port 6346 which LW uses.

I can't find any info on your modem, other than I end up at a Korean website. Korean is not one of the asian languages I learnt unfortunately. Is it a wireless type connection?

Go to your LW menu Tools>Options>Downlds & make sure you have at least one or more Max Downloads set. Example below. Also go to Tools>Options>Searching>Limit & make sure you have at least 5 set in that option. Press the Apply button if you needed to make any changes.

If this doesn't work, the best I can suggest is to try another version to see if it makes any difference from your personal downld page (if you lost the link you can find it here: HERE 1st try the Windows(Multilingual) version. Else try: http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=limewire

When you connect it should show coloured bars in the connection quality bar at the bottom left of the main LW window. These should be either green or blue.

See image below for setting Downld options.

Allow LW to run for up to an hour, then do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is it True/False?
