Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version,

2. What firewalls you have,

3. ram, 4. HDD space available,

5. Connection type,

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers,

7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?

* Go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ & tell us what happens (it should say Test page was a success.)

Try these one by one:

1. Repair LimeWire using the Add/Remove Programs utility. Go to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs & click on Limewire on the Change/Remove button & it comes up with options and one of them is Repair. Try this.

2. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000.

3. Update your Java
version 1.5 (take the JRE) (this version is later than 1.4.2 by your auto-update!)

4. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire
OR Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents"

5. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator.

It might help if you answer the other questions so we might be able to find the problem & possible solution. Also which isp do you go thru? (I'm not being nosy just trying to trace the problem area!) ;)

Your test is a good result that says a lot.

Sometimes one small trick does it. But sometimes the isp is either blocking or filtering p2p use. Sometimes it's a network/modem/router issue. Sometimes ...

Even a particular version of LW maybe doesn't perform particularly well on one particular system whereas a later or earlier version will ...

Connection

Sorry,

I am going through a company called NTL:Home I have had LW setup on this same connection before with no problems.
I am using a Broadband modem:
NTL:home200
Model 08004EU
I have a connection of 750Kbts (or that what I pay for)
I am in the UK.

Kind Regards.

Well it sounds as though you have absolute no control over your net hardware. The best I can suggest is to force ip: Force IP instructions & sample image

Or try another version: http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ OR http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=limewire or even the beta: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml

You wouldn't believe how much a difference a single version can make but it can! There's not dramatic differences b/w the versions of LW 4 but certainly some improvements & corrections.

But it does surprise me you aren't protected by a firewall & anti-virus/spam/spyware/adaware
