Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version,
2. What firewalls you have,
3. ram, 4. HDD space available,
5. Connection type,
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers,
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Some things to do:
Get the most recent Java: Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Do this simple test by going here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say 'Test Page was a Success'. What happened when you went there. It tells us whether the port LW uses is totally blocked for you.

1. OS=Operating System. You don't know which windows version you're running? My guess is windows XP, right?

2. You will need to configure your firewall to allow LW full & not just partial access; instructions: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

6. SOme interesting points about the modem: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...highlight=5100

So did you go to that test site?

rabbit88 January 17th, 2005 11:05 AM

sorry..... OS is Win. XP

I tried the test site and is said it was succesfull

I tried the hyperlink u gave me ( http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml ) and did all it said and still nothing

Lord of the Rings January 17th, 2005 11:26 AM

You configured your firewall right? lol :D

Try these things one by one until one works:

1. Update your Java version 1.5 (take the JRE)

2. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire (BUT make a note of all your LW settings 1st, b/c after you delete the LW prefs folder you'll need to reset them.)

3. Repair LimeWire using the Add/Remove Programs utility. Go to Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs & click on Limewire on the Change/Remove button & it comes up with options and one of them is Repair. Try this. But only when Limewire (LW) is closed.

4. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000.

5. Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator.

6. After opening LW, if it still doesn't connect then go to the LW menu File & choose disconnect. A minute later choose connect.

7. Leave LW running for up to an hour to see if it connects.

ooo

I tried all of that and STILL it won't work. I am connected to the school's LAN network, but otherwise I did everything else...and STILL it doesn't work! If it ends up never working, do I get a refund? I mean, I just got it today and haven't downloaded anything (cause I can't get it to connect)....

Hello?!

Lord of the Rings January 21st, 2005 04:17 AM

Hello freethemuffin

Many schools block p2p use. They may use a number of techniques to do this. That's b/c p2p uses up a lot of bandwidth which schools pay a large amount of money for.

Let's hope you haven't bought LW in vain.

Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say 'Test Page was a Success'. What happened for you? This is a simple test to determine if the port LW uses is totally blocked.

You have not provided any necessary detail as prescribed here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/announ...?s=&forumid=29
So I can only have a guess that you are using windows 2k or later.

Here's some things you can try. Configure your firewalls: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml
Force IP: Force IP instructions & sample image using port 6346

Try some Fixes for Limewire (only applicable to Windows operating systems.)

1) Windows XP home edition 2000
2)I got an ethernet connection

The test page thing didn't work, am I screwed?
cause I've tried everything else you've sugggested...
