Default Connection problem w/ Win 2000

Hello all. I usually use my trusty Mac for Limewire but decidied to give it a try at work on a 2000 sys. Now I know my work has a firwall setup but I can't find any info about Win 2000. All the info I found is about XP. I can't connect to the Lime network and I do believe that the firwall is the reason. I'm afraid the data base here is a bit much for me to search through to find out if someone else has had the same problem or not. Are there any 2000 users on here who have experienced the same problem who might be able to help?

Thanks in advance.

PS.

I think I originally posted in the wrong thread. I'm new to this forum. To the Mods, I do appoligies for double posting. Thanks again,

Solo

Win 2000 is in general the same as WinXP, The main difference is that XP is loaded with gadgets .
So most basic XP solutions apply for 2000 as well.

Thanks there. But the examples didn't make much since to me. It could also be because I use the Japanese version of 2000.

Still can't figure it out.

A simple test, go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say 'Test Page was a Success'. What happened for you?

If you didn't receive that message then you are blocked from port 6346 which LW uses.

What have you tried to do & can you describe in detail what happens. Give LW some time to try to connect. Which version of LW did you install? The english installer or the multilingual international version? Which language are you using it in? English or Japanese?

Hello.

It's the latest free version of the multilingual LW. I have switched the settings to English so I can navagate better. The main problem is the OS of Win 2000 is in Japanese. Now a member pointed out earlier that XP and 2000 are not that different but to a degree, they are. 2000 has a stronger network security setup than XP. So a lot of the directions as to what to do on the firewall setup doesn't match if you the main steps were done on XP. Plus to make matters worse, the setup boxes are different from language to language I've notice.

If I was on a Mac using any of the OS 10 systems, I could easily change the whole system over English, configure as needed, and then put it back to it's original setting and solved the issues whithout breaking a sweat. But Win systems are not up to par on that. To all Win users, I'm not and will not start a which is better talk or debate on this. Each system has its plus and minus. If anybody uses a non English 2000 system who have or are experencing the same trouble as me, could you help a non knowing win user here?

Again my work is running a firewall setup that I'm afraid I know nothing about. The connection always says connecting. Sharing 6 files. The test page returned "Your test page was a success!"

I'm really lost as to what to do. I've tried the network examples for firewalls but I don't see the advance tab or setting to input the information suggested.

Help!

To Lord of the Rings.

I hope my last message wasn't taken in the wrong tone or way.

I still can't configure as suggested by the help file link. Would it be safe to say the main problem is the firewall setup done by my works IT personel?

Again, help by all who can.

I also use a mac & I know little about networks. So I didn't even notice any tone, etc. lol

At least that's good news that the port isn't blocked.

You could try forcing ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image

You could also try manually connecting. ie: Open LW & change the settings. Tools>Options>Connections & untick the option & press Apply. Then close LW down & re-open. Leave it for a time, then manually connect it by going to File>Connect

Otherwise perhaps try the new beta 4.3.3 which overcomes some bugs in LW 4.2.x : http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml or at the bottom of your personal downld page if you're a pro user.
